In Sardinia we eat a lot of dairy, milk for breakfast, cheese at least one per day, cured meat, pork and sheep, vegetables, carbohydrates and a lot of pasta. None of the centenarian in Sardinia is vegetarian, and they will ask you if you have any kind of issue and get offended if you do not eat meat. For sure they walk a lot and community support and respect old people. And I'm from the town in the world with the higher number of centenarians. My uncle died with 102 y.o. and he used to eat pork far every day for dinner. The main difference is that that meat is grown by themself, there are not even supermarkets in the town

chicago chicago the answer to your question is no. Eggs and fish do not serve a place in a diet focused on long term health. In the Adventist study and what Beutner says that the pesco-vegetarians lived the longest from the Loma Linda group. As of this time, I don't think that has changed as far as results. Has that changed or is that wrong because of new data? Do they have any explanation for why? In the original study the vegan vs the pesco vegetarian group difference did not reach statistical significance. Is there any new paper that we can see that explains the new results that show the vegans as the winners?
@helicart6 жыл бұрын
The strongest study is the AHS II study. It is a going concern. Interim results still hold that pesco vegetarians have the lowest mortality risk, while vegans have the 2nd lowest. This may have a lot to do with who chooses to become a vegan. Many SDAs who get diagnosed with disease change to a vegan diet to help themselves get better. This would make the SDA vegan group a more diseased group. Until further results are released, the pesco vegetarian diet and the Blue Zone diets are the strongest evidence of what constitutes a diet with the highest longevity advantage.

If you do eat fish, try to eat low on the food chain, such as sardines. They have lower levels of pollutants, like mercury. They are also more sustainable. Brenda Davis quoted statistics that argued against eating fish. If you want the omega-3 fats and decide to avoid fish, you could use a DHA supplement made from algae. Vegan foods with omega-3 include ground flax, and walnuts.
@helicart6 жыл бұрын
There wasn't any organized Christian religion in the New Testament, no Roman Catholic church, no Anglican church, no Lutheran church, etc, etc... Jesus didn't write the Bible. Mary Baker Eddy was with the Christian Scientists. Ellen Gould White was SDA. SDA vegans live longer healthier lives than the great majority of Westerners. Jesus never told people to eat processed food, or be gluttonous and obese.
@VictoriaChii6 жыл бұрын
It's a difficult statistic because there are so many junk food vegan items in this day in age that it's less clear what a vegan diet truly entails as far as calories go. You can meet a vegan that eats mostly whole, plant-based Foods, heavy on the beans and low to no oils and fats, or you could meet a vegan who consumes potato chips, cookies, sugar cereals, and oily, processed vegan meat substitutes. It's very difficult to categorize, and I hope that they are able to discuss more fluently a healthful vegan diet rather than and all-encompassing vegan diet because I think the statistics are too broad.
@theartificialsociety33734 жыл бұрын

So what's your diet ? Vegan diet has pros and cons as any diet in the world. It links to longevity. Sometimes I am still wondering howcome we have healthy diet then we took supplements or fortified products. The common conception that animal products associated with cancers and heart diseases . The more you eat animal protein may shorten life . Most of animal products nowadays are contaminated
@millievanillie74938 жыл бұрын
The reason a vegan diet requires supplements to be healthy has to do with our changing relationship to the environment. Humans used to drink untreated water, eat unwashed vegetables and have greater contact with bacteria in our daily lives. Nowadays we rely on B12 supplements we used to get from these places. We used to have more contact with the sun and live in warmer climates, closer to the equator. Now we might need Vitamin D supplements where we used to get this from the sun. Iodine in the soil in many places has been depleted. Also, we fortify animal livestock feed and add cobalt to the soil to get the ruminants to produce B12 in their bodies. Omega 3 DHA is a bit of a question mark and I recommend an algae based supplement but many people can get enough through ground flax, nuts and other sources.
@millievanillie74938 жыл бұрын
The other thing to understand here is that there are dozens and dozens of essential nutrients and thousands of more phytonutrients found in plants. Supplementing ones diet with a few micronutrients shouldn't be seen as a dramatic overhaul or replacing "natural" ways of eating with something artificial. Really, very little about modern diets is "natural" to begin with, in my opinion.
@andrewcavanagh39463 жыл бұрын
The standard western diet is seriously deficient in a wide range of nutrients including magnesium, potassium, fiber etc etc. A vegan diet without any foods dug straight from the ground and heavily washed might need vitamin B12 supplementation but research shows that people on a standard western diet are also deficient in vitamin B12. You can get vitamin D by exposing your skin to sunlight and that is the best way to get it.

I'd like to see a protein supplement with the exact proportion of each amino acid for optimal health. If certain amino acids are kept relatively low, like methionine, and some high, like taurine and glycine ( with about an 8:1 ratio of glycine/methionine ), the result could maybe be as good or better than a vegan diet when it comes to health. Personaly I make my own mixture based on collagen hydrolysate but it's surely possible to do better with a careful analysis of each amino acid.

Amen Some Guy. Battery9876 If you eat whole food Plants you will not ever need any protein supplements PERIOD. thats one of the many takeaways this video intends. Brenda is a brilliant and thorough world renowned nutritionist and she attempts here to make it all "simple" so everyone can understand it. If you read the studies she references the Blue zones that do eat any animal foods it is around 1-3% of caloric intake which is about 1-3 servings per WEEK. and some are as much as 90% Plant "carbs".(and for the record as he referenced even though they range from 10-35% fats they are ALL "UNREFINED" fats that come naturally from consuming whole plant foods. (Nuts, seeds, olives, avocados, but NO OILS for example). This really is not that complicated or difficult its the mounds of misinformation out there that makes it hard on us as consumers I have found.... Point is she has done all the hard work and read every detail to draw the "OBVIOUS" conclusions. For example this is why if you consume most of her info out there she is on of the few that fully support a 100% Plant based diet (and eats this way herself) she does acknowledge the fact that up to that 1-3 servings per week "could" be consumed of fish for example without any major negative impact on health or longevity. These are the "types" of thing sin my own several year quest for the truth I have looked at when deciding who to believe. I believe she is on of those that tells the entire story. recap is you "can" consume VERY small amounts of animal products and be fine but then again why would you? that is her take and mine as well.

You don't need to eat a protein supplement at all. Your body is great at storing amino acids and you don't need to worry about the proportion of amino acids either. All foods contain some of each amino acid including vegetables, beans, grains etc.The idea that you'll be deficient in one amino acid when you eat enough calories in your diet is really nonsense. You'll get more than enough amino acids on any diet that has vegetables, legumes or an animal source of protein.

In all the blue zones , except Loma Linda, the people actually eat more saturated fat, more animal foods, more dairy than the rest of the population in their respective countries. In Nicoya, locals go to the market and fill up 2 l bottles with lard from the butcher. The locals in the small area in Sardinia that is in the blue zones book have a diet that is distinguished from the rest of Sardinia by its high fat dairy and meat content. There are still herbicides used by many, but people are going more & more to organically grown. Tend not to smoke? I just watched a 30 minute docu where many of the centenarians in the blue zone area in Italy smoked and drank regularly. Scientists have not conclusively found exactly what helps these centenarians live so long. Scientists even found blood markers that they had that may just be genetic. But they really don’t know if diet is one of the key factors. There are 9 factors the blue zones project found that these areas had in common...diet was just one of the nine. Many people like this woman focus only on the diet when it’s just one factor. If you do the diet but don’t have the other 8 factors, does that provide you with long life? And if you do all the factors except diet, does that provide a long life? Between the two, hich one provides a longer life? The truth is...no one REALLY KNOWS right now at this moment. But for her to focus only on the diet and making like it’s all you need is very irresponsible.

Almost vegan, but people in the Blue Zones eat meat around 5 times per month on average, so just over once a week, and in small portions. Most of them have some fish too, but again in small portions, up to twice a week. Altogether, Buettner notes that their diet is 95% plant-based, and 5% animal-based.

@ geniusofmozart One Blue Zone population is vegetarian or vegan. The Loma Linda Seventh Day Adventists are required by their religion to be vegetarian. Some of them are also vegan. But as you say, the other Blue Zones eat a lot less meat than the rest of the world does.

She is advocating a Whole Food Plant Based vegan diet. She only tells us why it improves health and longevity. She doesn't mention the advantages for the environment or animal welfare.

The Mormons who eat plenty of meat, outlive the Adventists by far.

More vegan movement propaganda. When you know People in there 90s, still healthy, who have eaten meat all their lives

I feel like our bodies appear to be different. My maternal grandpa has eaten lots of meat all his life smoked heading towards his 90s. I felt more depressed on animal products. Tried dairy for the first time in 3 years and realized dairy spikes my anxiety. I do better plant based with occasional fish.

@@myfragilelilac You are probably allergic to the lactose in dairy. Everyone is different. I do well eating more protien and fats with vegetables and verry little carbs. Sometimes i will swap meat for tofu meal or pea protien shake

@@exoticspeedefy7916 Ive never been lactose intolerant actually. My father is. But I felt bloathed as a child drinking dairy so maybe i react to it anyways. And I had Kefir yesterday since it was fermented its literally 99% lactose free. Yes thats what ive come to realize as well. My uncle is the same. He feels better high fat low carb. But animal products make my mental health worse. Ive realized diet is individual just like so many more things. Thats why people are so confused as to what to eat. Just listen to your body thats what ive learned.

Some people drive without a seat belt and also lived into their 90's. ps she talks about the blue zone people being plant based, not exclusively plant based

Excellent talk when it comes to the benefit of plant based diet , though the Bible reference and at the end is pure propaganda, just skip it.

I think the continued "Amen" degrades the import of what is being said and indicates a certain way to think and conceive.

You refer to the tendency of people to label themselves and lose their ability to judge new data objectively. I agree. I eat an almost 100 per cent Whole Food Plant Based diet, but I don't label myself "Vegan."

Live a little bit longer and a little bit better, not 100%, not 50%, not 20%, more like 10% or 5%. Nice but not a game changer.

I don't like how she talks about blue zones, then shoves her vegan beliefs on them. Prime example: get your fats from only nuts, seeds and avocados. Tell that to a Greek or Sardinian, who pours olive oil over everything and has never seen an avocado. It's disingenuous.

Can they also explain why the meat based eater countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore have a higher life expectancy than the vegetarian countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and India?
@annefricker8474 Жыл бұрын
True olive oil is pretty healthy but unfortunately a great deal of what most of us can lay our hands on us adulterated. In that case is it worth taking the risk?

'Disingenuous propaganda' is the friendliest way I can term this video.
