I bought one yesterday and it's pretty awesome. I'm an amateur guitar player, but it's the best guitar I've ever owned by far. I played a $3200 comparable martin, and there's no way I could see an $1800 difference between the two. You can't go wrong if your looking for a lower to mid range acoustic electric guitar, it's pretty hard to beat. Someone who used to work, i believe as a guitar designer, at Martin, started the company and that is why they are often compared to one another.

I have several guitars but I'm,falling in love with the br 40. Wow it sounds as good as Martin. Or mine does. Low action easy to fret and easy on the fingers. Bright sustain tone. With booming volume. You can keep your Martin no body touches my blue ridge. Thanks.

I own a BR-40. I had a professional action job done on it, and I have upgraded the bridge pins from plastic to bone. The bone pins added volume, sustain, and slightly more midrange. I liked how it played and sounded stock, and now it is even better. I have also been trying different strings on it, so far my favorite strings for the BR-40 are D'Addario Nickel Bronze. The forward shifted cross bracing makes a noticeable difference in the sound, it's a very worthy guitar for under $500. I wish I had this one as my first guitar, it's the best sounding one I have found for under $1500 or so (except for other BlueRidge models, of course.)

I watched the BR140 and this R 40. This guitar sounds warmer and fuller. I vote BR 40.

The intonaton is off as I hear notes sharp and flat. Some chords sound perfect and others the pitch alignment is way off. I found a way to correct that with plastic strips placed in front of the nut or saddle or both. If a note is sharp a small brace should be placed in that string in front of the nut. If the note is sharp place a small strip in front of the saddle. It took me hundreds of hours doing tests to see if I could get these miserable guitars in tune and that is how I did it. I have a 12 String Seagull acoustic that was completely unplayable and I used assorted plastic braces on the nut and saddle (4 notes were flat on the nut correct and 3 notes on the saddle were sharp) and PRESTO--the guitar rings like a harp! I couldn't put it down. I don't think guitar manufacturers know what a properly pitch aligned guitar sounds like and if they do they certainly don't care cause 99.9% of all guitars have this intonation problem. --Kenn Wingle (Producer of the Music Enhancement Channel on KZbin)

You’ll need a soundhole pup if you won’t drill. Baggs M-80 and Fishman Rare Earth blend, Fishman Blackstack are good. Lower cost? Baggs M1 or Fishman Rare Earth humbucker. Cheaper still? I’m not sure.
