Here is the awesome version of Flue Thing from the 1967 album Live at Town Hall released on Verve Forecast.

I studied at night to KMPX and this song. I remember it like today.

It's hard to express how incredible it was to hear this in 1966. Old norms were being shattered in every sphere of society and the Blues Project were right in the thick of the creative explosion in music. Andy's use of reverb in live concerts was simply mind-blowing. That's a way over-used term now, but back then, coming out of the stodgy sameness of pop music (and much of American culture), you had this incredible creativity and it sometimes was life-changing. Thanks for posting this.

BTW, when I wrote "hear this in 1966," I meant in a concert.

Minor correction: while there was reverb on Andy Kulberg's flute, it was an Echoplex that made for the "mind-blowing" extreme delay effects in his solo section. Delay and reverb are two different things.

I remember my way cool older sister had these two lps by Blues Project, along with some Donovan, Dylan, Richard & Mimi Farina and some other folkies (Patrick Sky, Phil Ochs) The 2 records by the Blues Project were my favorits and I had never heard a flute played like that-I had hard some flute playing in my dad's classical music collection-but this was new, fresh, beautiful and mind-expanding-an entire world of music came rushing in!

Thanks for posting. Note new music recorded by the band. Just Blumenfeld and Katz are left of the original band though. Release planned next month.

Katz and Blumenfeld were the real core of the group. Overlooked.

Never got into this band but I have to say that this isn't a bad live album at all.... I was told that they have a better live album than this one...

@@TheBlueCream Thank you, and in addition, why do ignorant people feel compelled to take time to knock something? It was incredibly innovative in its time (I saw this band in 1966).

so if it was a tune by the monkeys you'd say they weren't monkeys? It's the band's name...Blues Project

The Blues Project, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Charley Musselwhite's Southside Band: they all had diverse influences and it showed. I love the fact that they mixed blues, rock, folk-rock, jazz, classical...they played what they knew and created a unique blend of great memorable music.
