It’s going to be way more consistent. AppleSeas ran into Ma5on today on stream and Mason asked him to kill him. Held at point blank ADS and does 90 damage because of hitreg. Now that you know it won’t one shot you won’t have interactions where you get screwed by hitreg only for them to blunder backtrack one shot you instead

It's never been a solo game, the entire point is to play with a crew. Solo is a feature, not something to be catered to. Likewise the burning blade is a PVP event, dealing with boarders is part of that. If you have good communication with your crew then boarders shouldn't be an issue, especially with skeletons helping you. I've captured that thing with my regular crews about 25-30 times and have only sunk once, never once running to cash in instead of fighting. No one on board in our sessions were using the blunderbuss to defend, only knives, cutlasses, and the eye of reach. Stop using a one shot as a crutch and get better at crew communication.

@@ridingyourdad ok, but imo, more knockback less damage (still able to deal MASSIVE damage though) is healthier for the game, and to top it off, excluding niche scenarios knocking someone off ladder/ship and leaving them on low hp is gonna be much worse for the boarder, than the solo sloop. and even then, most solo sloop vs larger ships end up coming down to either 3-4 man board from the larger ship (which leaves them vulnerable to sinking, but makes it so that the solo has to out tdm), or one crew just sinks to naval pressure, cause solo rarely can go board, so making sure that a regrab to the ladder is harder/impossible is just better, and more consistent knock offs. tldr; this is probably the only way to nerf the blunder without making it useless (because think about how many times you miss a board and are swimming in water forever and your merm is like "nah, i don't wanna") edit: something else i thought of, it makes it so high level play's meta is less defined (ie, you basically have to run blunder/snipe for the ohk+anti-board of the blunder, and snipes for pressure/high damage not from cannons)

They should have rather added the knockback effect to the double-barrel pistol (when shooting both projectiles) instead of the blunderbuss. It would also make it a viable option in Arsenal. I can imagine this blunderbuss change ruining solo defense against a larger crew, because if you only knock back your enemy without finishing them off, they will be back in no time. But I guess we’ll see how it all plays out.

Depends how far the knockback is. If it pushes them far away enough from the ladder to where they can't just re-grab then it's actually an improvement since now the boarder is stuck seeking the mermaid and is forced to waste food healing rather than just dying and coming back at full HP. On the other end of that, Solos are now at an even bigger disadvantage because if a boarder is able to hop on unnoticed it seems they can easily knock the help out of the ship.

Honestly, this is probably for the best. Just think if any other weapon could One-Shot other players. If you could sword lunge and one-shot other players. Or if you could one-shot players with the Eye Of Reach (if Rare had added Headshot mechanics just for it). Those both seem super unfair, at least in my opinion.

I've seen the rational to counter the whole "why should the blunderbuss one shot when no other weapon can" as "no other weapon can clue me to the ground, why should the sword be any different". I don't think you can compare weapon abilities with each other when they function in completely different lanes, I personally just think we'll have to see how it plays out!

Imagine getting yanked across a galleons deck only to get oneshot the moment the animation is done. They're preventing this scenario specifically

I like the blunder change They killed blunder snipe skeets when they removed quick swap (bad decision), But now blunder does enough kb to skeet without quickswap. Also i can now use my beloved pistol snipe against blunder users 👀 Only issue I see is sword being too oppressive at close range

yeah, i can see sword being an issue, but in THEORY you'll still be able to handle them, even w/ out sword, increased kb so they get launched further allowing for an easier follow up, and if they don't heal you might just be able to reload and get them on them while they run at you (also as someone else said now the issue of getting hitregged on yours dealing a tickle of dmg, and they backtrack you for full isn't gonna be as bad)

The sword will be even stronger now. As there is no danger to being up in thier face anymore. Yea they can knock you back but you will still be alive to continue attacking them. In close quarters where you cant even be knocked back that far such as the botton deck of a sloop that's pretty much a rap for the blunder user if they cant retreat in time. There will still be counters of course. Such as fire bombing the sword user after a close range hit to force them to either retreat and eat or die. And of course you can try to get a combo off on them by finishing them with your other weapon after blundering them. But the removal of the one shot definitely gives the sword and edge now in the 1v1.

i don't feel like thats the number one reason why people use the blunderbuss. You and they keep saying it but I mean its also used primiarily for taking over ships. Getting a deck shot or board and one tapping people who aren't aware. Not that I'm complaining about that but stop acting like its primarily used to just defend against boarders. Blunderbombs are more effective for that anyways.
