Thanks for this. I know it's a LOT of work. A few things I would mention: White balance isn't really about having white whites since white doesn't contain much if any color information. If there's any color in your whites, you're doing something really wrong. And, avoid using any old thing you happen to have around that's white. White copy paper & certain synthetic fabrics for example have additives in them that may throw off a camera's perception of what is supposed to be a neutral grey value. An official grey card reference is always best but in the absence of a neutral reference, for post color correction, I've found certain white or gray paints, white or grey cotton, & asphalt to be pretty neutral.

Dear friend. Thanks for your interesting and important tutorials. Besides being very instructive, they are very well produced. I would like to ask you a favor and that is to inform me the best way to compress the videos produced. I convert them from mov to mp4 but they are always too big. I see that yours, like that excellent Masterclass of more than 2 hours and with great visual quality barely exceeds 800mb and for me a much shorter one reaches 2Gb or more. Can you guide me in this topic? Warm regards

@@FrameVoyager Still using FCP (First Mac was purchased in 2001 from Tekserve in New York, loaded with FCP 1.0 and I’ve been hooked ever since. I accept the power of Resolve, but for me, the speed of workflow comes down to familiarity and comfort and enjoyment of the program you use). I know this combo puts me in a bind but I was curious if you had any tips/tricks for that workflow: - Do I convert Braw to ProRes using Color finale transcodeer, or through Resolve? - Do I do any corrections before the conversion or can I make corrections after the conversion? - With limited storage, is it acceptable to convert to a medium or low quality form of ProRes like standard ProRes or even ProRes LT? - Is there a way to revert back to the original BRAW when editing is done, and then export to whichever delivery format from there?

I can see, why this tutorial/masterclass is viewed a lot: It's extensive! I just bought a BMPCC 6K Pro, and I feel like having speed read through the whole f-ing 170+ page manual! but without being bored. Wouldn't you want a quality stamp filter on tutorials like this on KZbin saying: master class level KA-THUMP! ... except you wouldn't want KZbin to rate according to who pays them, threatens them or rates them as political correct, but you get it.

FYI - if you’re looking at this as a cinema camera (like the Arris) then a 24mm lens will function the same. Why? Because film cameras have used S35 for decades. If your favorite director always uses 24mm on Panavision or Arris then a 24mm on the BMPCC will produce the equivalent (there’s a tiny difference of 7% but negligible). Don’t confuse/compare the S35 sensor with full frame.
@memcrew1

I am fascinated with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras but find that they take too much time to rig up and have downfalls like hot pixels that need to be refreshed every few days and the clock forgetting itself (though this also seems to be a problem on REDs. They seem great for structured sets that require 0% run and gun. I like to shoot incognito and handheld a lot since I can't usually afford sets or permits; the blackmagic would attract unwanted attention since I'd need to attach a tripod or gimbal. I used to have a BMPCC4K but just couldn't take the raw size anymore for films that made $0 and got 5 views. Amazing guide though. The original one for the 4K helped me out a lot when I had that enigma of a camera.

Sweet! Hope this helped! The best thing to do would be to film in HFR mode. I'm trying to remember what you get 120fps at but you can get that. So HFR will convert the high frame rates to your project frame rate. --> check this video out here --kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6mYpYtse6qCoLM

When powering on the camera with a custom power source, Black Magic recommends removing the battery first? What constitutes a custom power source? Supplying 12VDC to the DC input should make no difference to the camera. I'm wondering why would it make a difference if the 12V was supplied by an external battery pack rather than the supplied AC adapter? Do you have a source for this recommendation?
@aulcamedia
@aulcamedia 2 жыл бұрын
OK, I'll answer my own question, at least partially. There is a note in the BlackMagic manual which refers to custom power solutions with a dummy battery, and the need to be careful not to supply too much voltage. This is fair enough. The note then later recommends removing the internal battery when using a custom made power source. If you are using a solution with a dummy battery as mentioned earlier, this point is moot as obviously the internal battery must be removed to use a dummy battery. The question remains though, if you are supplying 12V to the 12V input, you are doing the same thing as using BM's AC power adapter, and they don't recommend removing the internal battery for that. 12Volts is 12 Volts, so I wonder what the difference is.

Hey I’ve been looking into the Black Magic 6k and should I definitely consider getting a CFast 2.0 card ? Not a fan of SSDs and the wires. I’ve seen black magics approved list but reviews from all over say different things about being able to handle 3:1 - 50 fps, etc. Would there be dropped frames when recording 6k 3:1 24 fps and let’s say 6k 5:1/8:1 50 fps with a quality cfast 2.0 card ?

I appreciate all the effort put into these videos but can someone please explain to me why anyone places their microphone like this in a film making class. Surely a shotgun overhead and out of frame would be a more professional way to present this kind of content. Maybe it’s a near field condenser he is using but this isn’t a podcast. Surely it’s a missed learning opportunity to show how to set up a “to camera” piece and I just never really understand why so many KZbinrs record sound this way when making this content?
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 2 жыл бұрын
Actually have never had anyone complain about this before! Moving to a different mic system here soon but the room I've generally done videos in has a bad echo so it up and away makes the audio production on the backend take longer so this was what I did to begin with. Finally got enough padding to eliminate the echo, so should be changing soon. But I don't think having this mic like this is teaching anyone anything bad, I wouldn't expect anyone to use a boom pole like this haha. KZbinrs also do it this way because it takes less time to edit the audio because you can keep the gain really low on it so you don't pick up anything around you noise wise. With making so much content all the time, you gotta make some choices to help speed up your production process and not have elements you have to go back and film again because of outside noise.
@KenFlanagan
@KenFlanagan 2 жыл бұрын
@@FrameVoyager Thanks for your reply but since you are presumably offering "professional" advice it gives an indication of how professional you are yourself if you actually practice presumably what you would suggest to anyone setting up professional sound. How you overcome the shortcomings of your room or any you might find yourself in, a professional industry standard "even for KZbin" would try to avoid having a huge microphone in shot. see you tubers such as Gerald Undone or DSLR Video Shooter if you don't believe me. Getting these things right is really a measure of your own professional credibility and skill. Its entirely up to you where you set that expertise as a filmmaker and tutor to others.
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 2 жыл бұрын
 @Ken Flanagan While I understand what you're saying, I respectfully disagree. It's absolutely fine that Gerald Undone or DSLR shooter does something a certain way, it doesn't necessarily mean I have to do it. While I don't plan on having the mic there forever, it works for what I have set up right now and saves time currently to make content until I have time to actually fix the issues with room noise with where I'm at. Filmmaking is all about finding creative ways to solve problems, breaking the mold, and coming up with jerry-rigged solutions. Sure, there are industry-standard ways of doing things, but in this situation, I'd rather have clean audio than loud, noisy, and echoey audio for a 2-hour project that I have to do a bunch of post-processing or have to set up a lapel solution every time I film. But this solution isn't anything new, plenty of documentary filmmakers have used their shotgun mics like this for Voice Overs and other audio needs. I haven't really heard you complain about the quality of sound so 😅 Also, this video has literally nothing to do with audio production. So I'm not giving anyone any advice here on "setting up professional audio." So no, it's not a missed learning opportunity because I never gave advice for anything audio production-wise in this video. At the end of the day, as I always tell my community here, if something is standing in your way keeping you from making content, no matter how small it is, figure a way around it and just go make something. If that means doing one thing the "non-professional" way for a time, then so be it. But I get that you disagree with this and that's fine, but this channel might not be for you.
@KenFlanagan
@KenFlanagan 2 жыл бұрын
@@FrameVoyager thanks for all that and you’re right your channel isn’t for me. I make my comment really for anyone looking to KZbin to find excellent content that helps instruct them as a learning platform and move their careers forward should they want to make professional work.
