Mac Vault in Texas was the site of The Bob Crites Invitational. Bob Crites pole vaulted for Indiana University and competed in the Olympic Trials in 1976. Masters pole vaulters like Gary Hunter, USA Track & Field Masters record holder, came down from Indiana along with Chet Clodfelter from Purdue. Masters pole vaulters from Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Indiana all competed to be a part of the 9th annual Bob Crites Invitational. Crites is 68 and cleared a couple bars and went out at 10’6”. Crites pole vaults and coaches at Mac Vault Academy which is said to be the top facility of its kind in the country with youth, hs, college, elite and master pole vaulters. Chet Clodfelter is 59 and former Big Ten champion from Purdue in 1985. Chet jumped 12’6” and went out at 13’ along with Bob Bearden who grew up and competed in Oklahoma. Chris Daniel who coaches at Mac Vault is 43 and former Kentucky vaulter had the bar up at 15’. It was a great early season indoor meet.
