I am thoroughly enjoying these police/detective/PI stories, and I'm hoping the trend continues, especially if they feature police detective (retired) Sherlock and his associates. Keep em comin' LLC 👍👍

The attic cubbie hole reminded me of a house I lived in when I was young. The city we lived in had many old houses built around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It seemed like it was a prerequisite that everyone have a large basement and attic. Our house had countless little cubbie holes , secret rooms and doors (a friends house actually had secret passages ) these were all explained as being originally used mainly as escape from fire or because it was a time when goods were delivered (such as ice , coal etc.) and if no one was home they could still be left. Being the youngest I got the last choice for a bedroom , if I were a little older the bedroom I wound up with would have excited me a little more. First , to get to the room I had to enter a skinny door (half as wide as a normal one) located in a far corner of the living room. It would normally be ignored as a storage closet if at all. Inside the door was a light switch lit lit one bulb hanging in middle of the stairwell leading to the attic space. At the top of the stairwell was a stereotypical attic , dark , dusty , full of boxes and antique trunks and unfinished walls. It was dark inside until you pulled a string hanging from the ceiling looking around all I saw was a typical attic the light illuminated old furniture , band instruments and turn of the century clothing interspersed with the boxes and trunks. On original inspection I asked my mom "fine and dandy but , how can you expect me to sleep up here?" That place was spooky for a full grown adult , let alone an impressionable 4th grader. She led me a long the walk way between the stacks of attic storage to a small door that looked like something out of Alice in wonderland . It looked like a normal door but , only about a third of the size of a normal one. It even had a doorknob that was size appropriate . I had to stop down to open and enter the little door and inside it opened up into what became the largest room in the entire house ...the walls were finished and painted and it was a furnished bedroom. At the far end was a window that let in some extra light. On each side the ceiling tapered down because of the roof. Besides the window was another small door and following along the wall there was another half sized door. The house became a total mystery trying to figure out what and where and why all of the odd doors and spaces in this house were about. Everything kind of revealed itself eventually , we discovered the milk delivery door , the ice shute , the coal shute and in my room the little door by the window held a small chain link ladder that was used as a fire escape you would toss out the window and climb down. I have to believe a less inquisitive kid would have totally missed the history lessons that house taught could have missed out on. I eventually explored the things stored in the attic and they revealed the history of the previous family back to the mid 1800s. The basement was also full of passages and storage. Then there was a garage that was added (after cars were invented) it was also full of stored ...hell everything ! After befriending the kid across the street I learned all of the shortcuts and hidden paths in the neighborhood plus , he showed me every fruit tree , bush , and berry vine. In the summer you didn't have to so much as go home to eat if you were like me and liked fruit. The neighbors never went out and picked cherries or plums from their own trees but would not hesitate to try and chase us off when we were doing it. One neighbor had citrus trees all over their yard and they were the only family that didn't mind seeing us , they were actually kind of grateful because they couldn't eat all of that fruit. They also had a very healthy grape vine at the back of the yard. Again many lessons learned about how people lived a hundred years in the past. This in 1967 and thinking about it now I shudder to even think about what became of that house and neighborhood.(The northwestern city hasn't received much favorable press these days) I stopped even making summer visits by 1975 yet have many interesting stories and adventures of all the time spent there...but I still don't understand why the family decided to stick the youngest most impressionable, frightened kid up in that attic bedroom.

Are you complaining? Do you have something against people falling in love? Hopefully you haven't been hurt by someone you thought loved you. If so and you want nothing else to do with love, don't allow your bad experience spoil the feeling for others. Maybe, hopefully you'll find love again and by extension find happiness. Or at the least, allow yourself to be happy for someone else.

An audio story must have a warning label, but grooming books can be offered to young children in state funded libraries and elementary schools? Seems legit
@RitaJefferies-b8y4 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? 🤔
@glundgren20974 ай бұрын
@user-cr4ms3lv3v 1st. This story has a warning label. 2nd. There are sexually explicit books in public libraries, that 8 year Olds can access and check out. These books have no warning labels, no age restrictions or parental guidance requirements. 3rd. Eight year Olds can't get into a PG rated movie without a parent or guardian present. Think about that and many other inconsistencies in public education that didn't exist not long ago!
