I was born in 1952, lived for a while in Waterloo Street before moving to a new house in Creggan. I attended the brow of the hill for 3 years. They were hard years having to go down the old Blighs lane, there was many memories the Gasyard, Hasson’s forge watching Alex shoeing a horse or making shoes he was a black smith. Meenan park, Morgan’s rag store, RUC station at the bottom of Westland street, then my family had a business Barr’s pawn shop,

I used to go through the bogside every day to school..I went to Long tower boys school and lived in Creggan...Down Blighs lane, Lone Moore road , lecky road and up into the Long tower,...That would have been from about 1959...

Interesting view from the Derry walls looking down over Fahan Street as you can see the cattle market taking up the footprint used for the Rossville flats, built by Laing construction in the 1960's. My childhood was spent on Harvey Street.

That's the statue of Princess Macha III at Altnagelvin Hospital ..this was filmed shortly after it was installed in 1957.

@@LeeMcDaidDonegal Do you have any idea who the woman is at 1:00 - as I am thinking this could be a relative of mine. I know this is so difficult, but her white hair reminds me of a photo.

@@johnking5174 I'm afraid I don't. John. The only thing I do know is that the family in the film were called "Adams" and they were visiting their relatives in Derry, they themselves had moved to London.

Stupid bloody comment! Living cheek by jowl in overcrowded houses which were barely better than slums with their stinking outside toilets, jobs withheld from the Catholic population due to govt sanctioned bigotry while earning barely enough to feed the family which was enormous due to lack of contraception! - Oh yeah - fantastic times - take me back!

@@geraldinemccluskey6231 The people who state this kind of crap wouldn't last a week if their transport to such times were actualized. They'd sever a limb if it meant coming back to the 21st Century. Of course, OP could be a Proddy. His comment would then be disgusting, but at least somewhat logical.
