I'm in Chicago. I will be in Bangkok in February. I downloaded the app. Tried to enter my debit card however it would not accept it . Anyone else have the same issue?

Oh it's either not available in the states yet or it's not on Android or both?
@JeremyClodfelter3 жыл бұрын
It’s on android and the Apple store. Maybe it’s just not available in the states yet. I’m honestly not sure.

I just downloaded and installed fine from the Google play store.

Re: payment. Is there a cash payment option? If paid electronically does it have to be from an account that is funded in baht like a Thai bank or can they process from foreign banks as well?
@JeremyClodfelter3 жыл бұрын
There is a cash option. To the best of my knowledge, the QR code you scan to pay can be from any bank that has the ability to produce the QR code for payment.

Bolt is great but the app only works in Bangkok and Pattaya, as far as I know, the prices probably won’t be this low for long as they expand, is my guess!

I haven’t tried Bolt in any other areas of Thailand, but I imagine there would be Bolt cars available in other populated areas. 🤷🏻♂️

@JeremyClodfelter3 жыл бұрын
@@alabamarebel9480 sorry to hear that. It’s my understanding that the service is relatively new in Thailand, thus only serving a few provinces. However, they are expanding their operations.

Assume you need a Thai bank account, not a credit card from your home country to pay using the QR Code?
@JeremyClodfelter3 жыл бұрын
While I am not certain, I would think any bank that is able to generate a payable QR scanner, should be ok. I don’t know for sure though. There is a cash option as well.

do you know price from Pattaya to Bangkok using Bolt?

About 1,100 THB.

Do you need a Thai phone number to connect your debit card to the app instead of paying cash?
@JeremyClodfelter3 жыл бұрын
Great question. You actually need a Thai bank account to scan or transfer money to the driver.

I will definitely get this App for my travels 👍 Just curious the driver will still accept good ol Baht Cash still, right?

@@jeffchurillo6363 🤣🤣🤣🤣 If you don’t know that most transactions, which occur in SE Asia are done with cash, then you need to watch a lot more videos before coming over here. In addition, a cash transaction in a taxi, of any type, is likely to occur with a taxi in this part of the world. Common sense Jeff...it will get you a long way in life. Have an awesome day!

This sounds really good, Jeremy, so I looked into it a bit. It appears to be mostly Europe but they are expanding into Africa and the Middle East. Thailand appears to be the only country in East Asia where they operate (they only have BKK and Chiang Mai listed on their website). In addition to cars and food delivery, they appear to have those e-scooters for rent as well (at least in some places). I think the big game-changer, at least as far as Thailand is concerned, is that owners can register a whole fleet of cars, rather than only each driver registering his own car. So rather than sitting in a queue in front of a mall or a hotel burning gas and not making money, a taxi can get quickly summoned by a rider and can be making money more often. Maybe the ride is less money than he'd make if the meter is running, but is he making more money with an 80 baht Bolt ride to Icon Siam, or waiting in a queue at the BTS Wongwian Yai station with 10 cabs in front of him, waiting on the chance to make a 150 baht ride to the same place?

"Bolt" there is a reason they are cheaper then others (Bolt is loosing money on this service at this time) Bolt wants to take the business away from the others before they jack the prices or are brought out for a profit.
@JeremyClodfelter3 жыл бұрын
That may be true, but I’m taking advantage of the lower prices while I can.
