Thanks for an interesting video - I was always wondering why the attraction with bicarbonate because my biggest problem with it is the amount needed to be dosed each day. I'm a hydroxide user as I can fit close to a month of dosing in a 5L/1Gal container. With bolus its interesting to see for example a 2 dkh jump isn't creating problems.

You dose only more water not more carbonate … 2 dkh is really no problem n

Do you have any data/examples on doing the bolus on tanks with a deep sand bed (and a lot of liverock).I am especially interested on the effects on ph.

I have been using the bolus method as described for 3 weeks now and the carbonate hardness was OK. But my pH value was still 7.5 at night. That is not helpful. After switching to ati essentials plus, it is now 8.05 at night and 8.4 during the day and the carbonate hardness no longer fluctuates! That is my experience..

Hi, carbonates and bicarbonates will obviously come to equilibrium. But carbonate solution has added advantages like possibility to prepare higher conc solution so that it can last long. Maybe pros and farmers have ressouces to keep up the bicarbs uptake but for casual hobbiests its a reall advantage. Carbonates precipitate if the dosing is not right, the key is to find the right amount. If you inject the right amount during night you dont have too much ph flucs either. but its an interesting idea.

@@recif_conde Hi sorry but no that’s not right is easy to find how carbonate produce precipitation if adding in seawater just google it. The PH issue happens while dosing .. immidiatly so I am sorry buts that’s how it works in reality

Will the Balling Light dosing with the BOLUS Method result in pH levels in the system 8.2-8.4, in a normal household (poorly ventilated)?
@FaunaMarin_Official3 ай бұрын
@@monkeybusiness5263 yea it will , you need to made sure also that the system is hold clean and maintaining

@@FaunaMarin_Official What is the pH in the sodium bicarbonate solution, in the Balling Light? Also, it was not completely clear to me what you meant with the "fully saturated solution", in your first visual demonstration at 15:00. Was the first jar sodium carbonate, and the second jar sodium bicarbonate? Do you use Balling Light because the alk there is supplied by sodium bicarbonate, while Original Balling uses a mix of sodium carbonate and bicarbonate? I appreciate your response, thank you.

Hey, thank you for the video. I'm about to setup my 1st marine tank. I don't even plan on corals yet, just some makro algae and brakish water fish for startes. But back to my question, I don't have a dosing pump and I may not be there in time to dose before the lights go on. I don't get up every morning at the same time ;) - Is that a real problem or is this just "not 100% perfect but still pretty ok"?

Danke!

Really interesting idea thoughts kinda makes sense will have a read about it like the idea of dosing once a day …… What gap between each solution do you dose ?
@FaunaMarin_Official6 ай бұрын
Hi you mean with Ca and MG ? 4-8 times during lighting period

@@FaunaMarin_Official ok so they still staggered during the day just the KH is before the lights come on have you got a link to to products you would need to get started ?

I saw the discussion on german KZbin channels. Whatever or whoever is right, i Stick to fauna and the know how of Claude. Since i have switched to bolus my corals looks better and there is no discussion and a fact for myselve.❤

But seriously, why are there thousands of examples of great high-end reef aquariums that have been running for much longer than 2 years and don't show any old tank syndrome? I'm talking about systems that are based on sodium carbonate, of course!
@FaunaMarin_Official6 ай бұрын
Interesting how you can know so much tanks running so long and know what they use, any access to real data like we have ? I am sure not , so what you stated here is maybe a feeling or try to be a fan for whatever but has nothing to do of that what we deal with everyday. But look the method is a possibility it’s not a must , if somebody is happy with that what he use then is great and the first law , never change a running system is the most senseful option.

With honest Claude.. i gave them a chance..but this is my personally expierence with Bolus..or lets say balling light

@@WhiteTip-he8rmi think its good to state less positive experiences if true but for me, its unclear if your issue is with balling light or BOLUS? I would like to know how ATI can produce a 0.5 PH increase compared to Balling light, if you target the same alkalinity? I wonder if this should have been discussed with their user support first to eliminate any user errors.

I have a recovering kalk addicted tank. The pH is still broken but the tank is glowing and growing on Bolus. My tank has never been as sturdy. I accidentally dosed 10x alk 2 days ago, tank was fine. dKH was over 20. I can't recommend it enough to my fellow North Americans. The precipitation example is a very good visual aid.
