The “BOLYAR” Collection is a finer and more simple addition to the family of our leather bound journals.
Paying homage to the STALWART journals from a few years ago, these books incorporate a minimalist approach to decoration with a balanced combination of blind and gold tooled ornaments. Leaving much more space to accentuate the beautiful qualities of the premium goatskin, the tooling only takes the central area of the covers and protrudes a bit to the inside as well. The fine covers are kept closed by the elegant sterling silver clasps, made by the careful hands of my father. Another contribution by him is the Rosewood Dip Pen that comes with each journal, each fitted with a sterling silver insignia and iroko wood stand.

Previously I had Freudian slip where I had thought you made a book with white leather and gold embellishing, I don't know if this is within your current work ideas but I would love to see something like that from you. A white and gold book the embodies purity. That aside, nice work as always!

I've done one or two in the past but have removed most of the traces of them online. You may have seen them somewhere. They were done with materials that I wouldn't use right now, as the leather was most inappropriate, not because of its color but by the method of tanning and dyeing. It's actually hard to find white leather, that is actually vegetable tanned. The most proper way would be to use vellum but I'm currently not sure enough to use it, as I wouldn't want to ruin it. In short, I might do something like that some day but it's not something I'm planning soon. Have a great week!

Gorgeous! Your very inspiring too. I tried to make some books after watching a few of your videos earlier this year out of cheap stuff. They were terrible :) but I still love watch. It's very cathartic somehow to watch you make these and talk about them

Special work ! I have a question. How maintains the color of potassium permanganate ? Because potassium permanganate after time, changes the color to light brown.

Thank you, Dobroslawa! For taking the time to write these kind words and your appreciation! I still need a lot time to develop some of the more difficult techniques and my video presence needs much more practice as well, so it's very flattering to hear you like them! I've been to Poland once, when I was a student, in Poznan. It was great! I hope I get the chance to come again and take some lessons from Jacek Tylkowski. He's a marvelous bookbinder with genius design ideas.

Stopan, your work amazes me, and I want to get into this field, I have some questions, what do you use for gluing the gold foil? can you give me a link with your adhesive? at what temperature do you heat the brass models, I understood that somewhere at 140 celsius would be, is it correct ??? and another question :) :) :) how thick is the cardboard for the blankets? if you use wooden plywood do you think you can still make the models in the leather ??? thank you very much

Hi Stopan! Have you heard of a book called the 'Dictionary of the Khazars'? It's a fictional book of short stories written by a Serbian author named Milorad Pavić. It's fascinating, and for some reason it reminds me of your style. It's a book of fictionalized lore and history and philosophy. It's beautifully written, and I wonder if you would find some inspiration in the stories for future bookbinding projects.

They are really cool although the spine looks kinda unfinished to me because of the bands showing through a little bit. But that's just personal taste...

Haha, I'm actually using it as a mustache incubator but we'll see. I used to have a long beard before and now it doesn't feel as much as an adventure as it was before.
