And just like that, my TBR list for 2025 gained another book.

I was so moved by the “Bone clocks” this is so hypnotic and gripping! Incredible piece of literature and intricate tapestry of life, magic and realism! Humour is unsurpassed and the writing style is exquisite! ❤

I remember this one well. Cloud Atlas is one of my favorite books, so I was excited to read this. I loved the narrative structure and his writing. The last story was really gut wrenching with the setting. Knowing what was going to happen after that story because I've read Cloud Atlas made it more hopeful, though. Overall very memorable.

Cheers. Yep, I went into reading The Bone Clocks when it came out very worried. But yeah, Mitchell works magic again. Still, I have to say, nothing he's written could top "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet". I was so worried going into reading that one, as I typically abhor historical fiction, but regardless it couldn't possibly be as good as Cloud Atlas, or his earlier SciFi novels... I was wrong. It's still my favourite of anything he's written, if indeed not my favourite book of all time. One of my few 10's.

@@rammelbroadcasting Given what I've gleaned from watching you here, I imagine you'd be pleasantly surprised. I describe it as Dickens meets Kurosawa... lol

Why did cloud atlas remind me of specimen days by Michael Cunningham?

The writing was amazing, but I found the explanation for the surreal events unsatisfying. And I can't help but think the central conceit of psychic vampires too similar to Stephen King's Doctor Sleep.

I thought it was fine, but you aren't the first person I've heard say they felt the explanations were unsatisfying.

Quick question, do you have a Goodreads profile? I tend to follow all of my booktubers (at least the good ones lol) there… also: just discovered you, KZbin’s algorithm strikes again…🫶
