I’d add Into The Deep by Ken Grimwood to this list as well. Part of the book involves dolphins and their thoughts and communication with each other. I don’t think that could be translated to the screen in a way that would truly work. On the flip side of that though, I’d love to see someone put Ken Grimwood’s Replay on screen, as that could make a fantastic movie.

Dishonorable mentions to "Jumper" and "Never Ending Story" (a film that I love, but is quite dissimilar to the two part novel).

I am currently reading The Rise of Endymion. I agree it is very frustrating to read. I loved Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion novels, which i considered my favorite science fiction series .I ordered the books Endymion and Rise of Endymion, I was excited to return to that universe, now I want to leave. I was for the most part disappointed in Endymion. The only character I liked was Father de Soya ,the antagonist! It had a couple of moments at the beginning and the end but was a slog to read. The Rise of Endymion showed some promise in the first part but I am half way through second part. Its religious pretensions bugs me , it is shallow and redundant. Where it was rich and nuanced in the first 2 novels. I also felt he focused on the most trivial uninteresting scenes and characters. The book seems to be mostly filler. I am annoyed at how the religious themes are dealt with in this book. For instance there is more than one denomination of Christianity besides Catholicism, he could have gone into the theological implications of wearing the cruciform, the soul and immortality. So far I see none of that, only the 'Messiah' Aeneas spotting fortune cookie philosophy and high church clerics who can't defend their own theology which your lowest parishioner who reads the Bible could.I thought maybe they would do that when they brought back Father De Soya, who embodies faith.Instead it falls back on Christianity bad all other religions good,(including Islam). I think it is a waste of opportunity. I am reading to finish the series and hope it gets better. As a love story it is terrible, the characters are one dimensional.

I don’t know if you will ever read my comment on your old video, but I found your channel yesterday and I’ve already watch like 10 of your videos! You are wildly entertaining and I love the passion you have for reading. You have enlightened me to so many more books that I need to put on my reading list. Please keep up the amazing work!

Found you recently after your Vampire Hunter D video. Really liked the first book! I appreciate your take on Gaiman. Not because of him-I haven't read any of him yet-but because thats happened to so many people. I just don't like when allegations are enough to ruin someone.

Found your channel today and wanted to say how much I love your library. I just had my last kiddo move out and so I turned my second bedroom into a home library and love having it. Still a bit of a work in progress, but mostly finished. Being able to fill space with things you love feels amazing. =)

I remember picking up a few Discworld books in high school here and there. Really enjoyed them, but got distracted with other books. Fast forward a few decades, I started Malazan for the first time (best Series ever by the way) and quickly realized I needed to break it up with some light hearted quick reads. Discworld turned out to be pretty perfect for that purpose. :)

If I had to make a list of overrated books I would have to put the original Dune or Dune Messiah on it. They were not my cup of tea. They are not bad but people speak so highly of them that when I read them I thought they were a lot more simplistic and derivative than I was anticipating. It could be a case that I heard too much about them before I read them and that ruined them for me. but I thought they were a slog to read.

Totally agree with regards to A Scanner Darkly and LOTR. As adaptations go, they were absolutely brilliant and captured the books incredibly well. For me, I’d also include Fatherland by Robert Harris. I love alternate history novels and the story put forth by Robert Harris if Germany had won WWII is so well done and makes for a really gripping read. The movie followed the books path very well and the casting was perfect. Rutger Hauer has always been one of my favourite actors and he plays his role beautifully in the movie. Miranda Richardson is just marvellous in her role in the movie and it’s a shame the movie is not very well known.

I haven’t gone that far into your backlog but I would love to see a quick manga review of Die Wergelder if you get around to it. It’s from the same author and artist as Blade of the Immortal and it has very similar vibes with the dark grimy world and insane hyper-violence. Outside of that there’s Made in Abyss if you want something that’s absurdly good with world building and mystery elements, or if you want something weird, trashy, and better than it has any right to be there’s Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight. The initial chapters are odd to say the least but after reading it a few times I love the series and all its faults for being unapologetic in its absurdity.

La confidential. The book is good but a bit meandering with multiple subplots that weren’t evne in the movie. They took the basic form from the book and condensed it and tightened it to the point where it’s perfect but almost a different story. They also used some scenes in the book with different characters and made it the climax of the movie. And it’s so much better this way.

I loved the third volume of the manga and was very excited by the catastrophe of the collapse of Neo-Tokyo after the Battle of Akira, in which Obasan played a major role. I went to the theatre on July 16, 1988, looking forward to seeing how it would be portrayed in the anime, but I remember being very disappointed that the parts I was looking forward to were left out.

I prefer The Shining movie over the book. This is a case where the movie feels more like a book and the book feels more like a movie. I found the book to be more of a generic ghost story and the movie about Jacks internal struggle. The greatest battles are fought within after all.
