I know, right?? I just watched one of the emergency videos that Really has, and they showed everything on a victim that fell down a mountain and hit his head on a boulder. His eye was so swollen and closed, there was blood all over his head. If Really can show blunt videos of accident victims that show their injuries, why don't they show us these blurred out procedures??

My kidney doctor told me 4 years ago, "No more red meat" & I stopped eating that. No more potatoes of any kind & he gave me a diet to follow. He said if I didn't follow the diet, I had a good chance of having kidney transplant. I had to make changes, but my life depended on that. My kidney function has improved dramatically. Oh yeah, I have to drink 60 to 70 ounces of water a day & no dairy or soft drinks or alcohol. When your life depends on drastic changes, you make the changes.

My daughter saw my big toe joint swelling and told me she had had the same problem and consulted her doctor. "Stop eating those Slim-Jims"...sodium nitrite, a preservative, is found in every processed meat from hotdogs to hams, cold cuts. I did stop, and started reading labels. I have not had any gout problems since, and I still eat steak from our local butcher. This is just my story, but it might help someone assess their particular diet situation in regards to gout.

@PonderingStudent

Gout's actually caused by the body not being able to break down uric acid, leading to high blood uric acid levels and crystals of it being deposited in the joints. So, whether someone's diet is rich or low in foodstuffs that contain purines (which the body breaks down into uric acid) will obviously have an effect. However, the underlying problem is the body's inability to break down uric acid, which is mostly genetic. Medication works by providing the body with the chemicals needed to metabolise it. At least according to Wikipedia, about 12% of gout is primarily due to dietary causes and about 60% is genetic.

I found it annoying that they brought up the patient's diet during the surgery as an offhand comment rather than bringing it up during the consultation or as a cut scene with a brief explanation of how diet can contribute to this condition. @@PonderingStudentI would agree. I changed everything diet-wise and my gout actually got worse. I fought that for a couple of years. Eventually, I got on allopurinol and the improvement was almost immediate. Haven't had an attack in about two years. My biggest problem is chronic dehydration, which is BAD!! I simply have to force myself to remember to drink enough water. You need to be properly hydrated to pass the uric acid. No doctor, but these changes worked for me.

I know what it is, I had inmense pain for 10 years from gout. To any people who suffer from this. I started doing intermittend fasting and it is gone !!! I went from weekly attacks to 0 in more then 2 years already (results came after 2 weeks ish). I had tried every diet and lots of meds and nothing helped me. This simple lifestyle change literally saved my life. I eat the same as before just on a different schedule. I am no doctor, but for me it did wonders (also lost 20kilos). So give it a try and I hope it will do the same for you.

@AJ That's actually a common misconception. Diet can *exacerbate* gout, but it doesn't cause it. It's perfectly possible to have a diet rich in trigger foods and not get gout, or to be a lifelong vegetarian non-drinker and still get it. Gout's actually caused by the body not being able to break down uric acid, leading to high blood uric acid levels and crystals of it being deposited in the joints. So, whether someone's diet is rich or low in foodstuffs that contain purines (which the body breaks down into uric acid), will obviously have an effect. However, the underlying problem is the inability to break down purines, which is genetic. Medication works by providing the body with the chemicals needed to do that.

That is not a fun surgery to recover from. I had to have my big toe fixed because there was a cyst inside the bone from a motorbike wreck that I was in 20 years ago. That toe still hasn't settled to where it will touch the ground again, but hopefully PT can fix that.

Bro this is literally the most satisfying and educational video I've ever seen but why blur when it's an educational video? Either you have to get in touch with KZbin Crew or they gotta have a new policy.

From someone who eats carnivore and nearly zero carbs I can tell you it’s not from the red meat. My gout only flares up when I eat alot of sugars or tomatoes. Gout went away when I started living in ketosis

@@Dr.LongMonkey I wasn’t always carnivore. It wasn’t until I started eating nearly zero carbs that my gout went away so pay attention to what ppl say. I haven’t had a flare up in over a yr. Before that I was on meds for gout

@@Randomthings321go you ate red meat when you had gout. Gout is obviously not caused by carbs this is proven by science. Maybe you just stopped eating an excessive amount of food

@@Randomthings321go I had a number of health conditions clear up when I went carnivore and they come back if I fall off the train. As a woman with severe PCOS, my body just can't process carbs correctly. Pretty sure I'm going to avoid the online advice of "Dr. Long Monkey," who is apparently reading challenged.

This always bugs me. Human beings are not “carnivores,” but omnivores. Go over to a mirror, open your mouth, and look at your teeth. You have omnivore teeth. Then open a tiger’s mouth, and the last thing you will ever see is what a true carnivore’s teeth look like.

I've had gout a few times. The day before I ate a lot of liver, roast beef, or shrimp. As long as I don't go overboard on anything I don't get it. Also just personally Aleve basically makes it go away within the same day. I took Excedrin once not knowing aspirin makes it worse and that made it awful, do not take aspirin in any form for gout.

I don't understand. A person is filmed in a TV show, gets help, but cannot simply cut his toenails. It's disgusting and disrespectful to everyone. To those who help, to those who watch. For the sake of solving such health problems, this sickening sight could be put in order. Or ask someone from the family. Awful.
