Super little tree and great idea to bring the canopy back over the top to even out the shape and look.

Day of the Privet = Classic stuff!! Laughed out loud (a lot) when you mentioned you bought one😆😆. I quite like your vision for the tree. Will have great movement and, of course, taper once it develops. 'Potato' may sound more romantic in Japanese (if you like romantic tubers, that is). Will be lots of fun to follow the progression for sure!

i also recently acquired a mature privet bonsai. i love the lumpy look of the trunk. the chunky trunky is something i try and get out of a few of my trees (im working on an oak similarly). i think it looks really interesting. love this

Cheers Adam and good luck with those trees. Increasingly I am abandoning my earliest efforts in favour of trees with more substantial trunks.

Bonsai Potato…I have not heard of that whimsical item before. Might be something fun to do with the kiddos! I’m diggin the sumo design you have going here. You’ve done an amazing job with it, brother.

I have this tree as well. It is growing very fast in large pot. New shoot is about 7 cm long in 3 weeks. I also defoliated it to see structure well and very dense foliage got back in 3 weeks. I hope i will find the wires.

Do birds steal your fish ? Is it the purpose of the mesh ? 😂
@TheBonsaiGarden6 ай бұрын
We get regular visits from herons (used to be daily at one point but not seen one now for about three months) and they have previously taken fish, hence the raised net. Without it the pond would be empty. All the talk about decoys etc is nonsense - the only thing that will truly protect the fish is a physical barrier between the koi and the heron. It is also raised so they cannot impale and stab at the fish.

@@TheBonsaiGarden 🤣 I agree, decoys are nonsense, they are not stupid
