Dunno if anyone will ever see this, but after reading many of the comments I thought I needed to comment. I live in a world that is very broken. In many ways life for many has become similar to the world of Eli. I am broken. I need God. Yes I am weak. Yes I need a crutch. A year ago the Lord told me this. "Stop trying to be... something that you are not. Let me be... in you... who I AM." I am not trying to prove God. If you do not need God as I do then move along. God still Loves you.

"Weak", "a crutch"? No my friend you are not weak if you believe in God, and our savior Jesus Christ is absolutely no crutch. I hear that from non believers all the time and that's fine they can denounce God and not have faith. Let God judge them, I will try my best to talk to them about the lord and Jesus Christ in the way I can (the great commission), I am not an exceptional talker but I try my best not to be too pushy on non believers (atheists) but I also do NOT let them think that it's okay to sin but that "God will see that I'm really deep down a good person so I'll still be saved", No! Sin is sin, but with that said, we are all sinners, no one is perfect, but we don't have to be thanks to the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us. If we believe in him and trust in him then we have a chance to be saved. If you believe in God as I do then what happens on this earth is temporary and of materialism which we won't need in the afterlife if we make it to heaven. I believe in Jesus Christ our savior and it sounds like you do too and I hope and pray that whatever hardships are affecting you this present day that you find that inner strength and peace to know that there will be a better place for us in the kingdom of the lord where we will know no such thing as the hardships you are facing. That is my hope and faith 🙏 for you. Please continue to pray and to believe even when those around you mock you for believing. It is they that I feel sorry for. Thank you for posting this video, this is such an amazing movie that I am in shock that Hollywood would even make such a film about faith and God. This movie and Denzel Washington's performance in the film inspire me. Just so you know a little about me I grew up poor in a big metropolis of California in a neighborhood filled with gangs, violence, drugs, etc. I was raised catholic and taught to believe in God but got away from God as I became an adult due to mistakenly following liberal leftist ideologies that are just all around California. I was living in sin (having sexual relations with a married woman) and addicted to porn. I even denounced God at a certain point in my life, and believed myself to be an atheist and believed in abortion, when mocked for my faith, in front of people whom I thought were smart and wanted to impress (that was me being weak and not having courage). I could never quite fit in though with the liberal ideologies that taught that it is man who gives us our rights and freedoms and not God. I could never quite get onboard with the pursuit of hedonistic sexual pleasures and vices for it's own sake and at all cost over the sacrifice and penance that a Christian must make. Knowingly sinning and not caring bothered me. The liberal ideology never truly jived with me. My faith and Christian roots were always there , even just enough to keep me from going full off the deep end when I doubted that God existed and that Hollywood celebrities and famous people were the wise ones with their woke marxist ideologies. I was not the best leftist (and for that I'm grateful lol). I can't remember when exactly the light bulb went off but it was more of a gradual thing that I slowly began to reconnect with my Christian roots. I think it also had a lot do with this elderly man whom I befriended and he was an avid Bible reader and helping him out with putting page tabs on his Bible, so he could read it better, did I begin my journey back to where I'm at now, a person of faith who will never go back. All thanks to God and to my friend who is now resting in peace. I'm married now to a beautiful woman of faith as well, she helped me break my porn addiction and we have a great home and I have a good career that helped me enter the middle class. I hope that I have atoned for my grave sin of denouncing God in my earlier years and that through my faith in Jesus Christ I can still make it to heaven. I've read that even the worst of the worst can still be saved as long as they truly repent and trust and believe in Jesus Christ so I try to do my best to talk about Jesus Christ to others who may have doubts or are non-believers. Well that is a little about me. I have nowhere near the hardships that you must have faced or are facing but I just wanted to let you know that I once doubted God and questioned his existence , and was also trying to be something that I wasn't, but realized in the end that I'm a Christian and a follower of God and that that is where I'm most happiest and at peace with. Thank you once again for posting this video. Peace be with you and may God bless you.

Just watched this movie on television today, I have to say that this was a very moving and powerful movie. It shows the strength of humanity with the will and faith of a higher belief. I myself was never one to believe it if I hadn't seen it, but in recent years I have become a firm believer that WE are all a higher power ourselves. We are our God. Now I'm not trying to start any arguments or anything of that nature. What I was intending to say is the climax brought me instantly to and tears.

I am not a religious man. In truth, the experiences of my life have turned me toward the path of the agnostic. Though I follow no written faith I will not deny that there is some force, some greater power at work in the cosmos. An essence of eternity which I cannot yet comprehend. Yet, when I hear these words, spoken in whispered tones, I cannot help but be moved to tears. The cosmos is beyond human understanding; out of the struggle to know what is, what was, and what may yet be comes the adventure that is Life. Walk the path brothers and sisters. Fight the fight...Keep the Faith.

@eskyguard I loved the way he just kept on trusting God and following what the Spirit of God was directing him to do. He was not religious but he knew the reality of a relationship with God. I also appreciated the way the bad guy was portrayed; He saw the bible and religion as a way to gain control of weak minded followers. Eli was a man humbly and obediently walking with God and loving a lost humanity. Nothing else was nearly as important to him. He knew God in reality.

Sorry to jump in so late. I think it is very simple and this is how I live. Jesus knows where the party is going to be. If I want to go to the party then I need to follow him. If I don't follow him then I won't arrive at the party. If I follow the rest of the world then I will end up somewhere else. I love God and I do want to end up at the party. All are invited. If you don't love God then don't go. This is not about religious practice but a relationship with the creator. Eli followed God!

I am glad that it was encouraging to you. I haven't read comments on here for a long time. I had no idea that it would spark controversy. I posted it because it was encouraging to me. I like the movie because it is about a man who had memorized the bible, but what set him apart was the fact that he was led by God himself across the country. He was a man who had denied himself, taken up his cross, and was literally following Jesus. Gary Oldmans character saw the bible as a way to control others

This movie wasn't really about the book at all. It was about a man following after God with all that was in him. Carnegie thought that it was all about the book. That is why he was so obsessed with possessing the book. Carnegie wanted to use the book to gain power while Eli just walked in simple obedience to the Spirit of God. Seek God"...if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him." I put off watching this. The Lord kept bringing it to my attention until I did.

I agree. I have watched it more than a few times, and every time I do, I get some additional understanding and nuances more than the time before. Those who believe, understand his task. Although purely screenplay, I believe that it somewhat mirrors the life of Jesus Christ, in his endeavor to enlighten mankind to their history, their creation, and their future path. And like Jesus Christ, Eli was resolute in his resolve to complete his mission, regardless of it's personal cost to himself. And Denzel performs it perfectly, with his cool manner and calm eyes and trying to give the naysayers their chance to repent or reform or join him on his journey. They all refuse, save one. And, as he says, return to the dust from whence they came. And that one, as the story ends, shall continue his task. I have read little bad about this movie, mostly because it does not attempt to be 'politically or biblically correct'. It is meant to be a thoughtful presentation of one man's journey on a quest that was supposedly God given.

Jerry Jane, if you believe that Jesus is the word of God and that he has existed eternally, then he is responsible for the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, the red sea drowning the Egyptian army, the killing of every first born in egypt, etc. God is not just loving and graceful, but also terrifying and just. THE FEAR OF GOD is just the beginning of wisdom. If you don't have the fear of God then every presumptuous thought that follows will be somewhat tainted. We are afraid to discuss the "terrible" things that God has done because we find it somewhat embarrassing, don't we. There ya go. Our huge egos are embarrassed of what God has done, and what he has promised to do in the future.
