Exactly! One of the few reference books that can't be reliably replaced by a quick Google search. How many times have I seached for a symbolic or architypal meaning online only to be met with page after page of superficial filler results... Yes, this one's a keeper :)

This book is amazing, thank you fot sharing. As an artist I am always thinking about the symbolism I put into some of my work. Its not always easy, but when I do it is often very rewarding.

I managed to find a used copy of this at a thrift store more than a year ago. As soon as I grabbed it off the shelf, I knew I needed to buy it. The copy I have has multiple colored ribbons attached to the spine for use as bookmarks. It seems to be well put together for research use.

To get a deeper understanding of the meaning of symbols is extremely important to read semiotics books, specially Umberto Eco ones. Then and only you realize how the use and interpretation of symbols is so tricky, it always involves conventions and context.

I would recommend "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols", by J.C. Cooper, which also has a multi-traditional approach. "The Penguin Dictionary of Symbols" by Jean Chevalier & Alain Gheerbrant, also "The Wordsworth Dictionary of Symbolism" is surprising good too.

Great book had it for years was my poor man version of the red book which I later got. I used the book as a tarot card when I come across a reoccurring symbol on my travels

This looks like a really nice book and I decided to check it out on Amazon. Sifting through some of the reviews there, it seems that there are a number of people that weren’t really happy with the content of the book. Many of them said in their reviews that despite it being a nice looking book, content wise it wasn’t very informative about each of the symbols.

For a couple of years, I’ve been studying the patterns in life before something big is revealed to me. Apparently, there is a smaller sequence of symbols embedded in the patterns that can be understood - if you know the meanings of the individual symbols. Thank you for this review!

@@Johan-ke8sv Typically, I have a chemicalization (almost any book from Catherine Ponder describes this phenomenon). But I bought the “Book of Symbols” above as well as some dream interpretation books and a few “spiritual meaning of _____” dictionaries. Most of this stuff is available for free on the web. I was interested in trying to see if everyone who saw a cardinal flying then dreamed about a snake eating its tail and then suddenly heard from a long lost friend went on to win the lottery…or got a CEO job…or wrote a bestselling book. I’ve gotten sidetracked since I made the comment above, but I believe I’ll soon have more info on what particular combinations of signs/symbols/signals mean.
