The book that changed my life is being reissued...with me in it

A step away from the usual DIY EV stuff for this video as it's a big week for me. The Usborne Book of the Future, which totally shaped by career, is being reissued this week. And Usborne asked me to write the foreword! Find out why in this video.

Did they predict some crazy Eejit would pull a perfectly good engine out of a Beemer sports car, strap a load of Duracells into it and screw a load of plastic to it? 😋 Congrats on achieving a lifetime dream. Can't say I ever saw your book but spent many a happy hour reading 2000ad comic. Many of the predictions in it came true too like smoking bans. Also The Hitchhikers Guide kinda predicted smart phones.

You should take a look at this one! It nailed smart watches, solar panels, jetskis and even idiots putting batteries in cars! Well, EVs anyway. 🤣

I remember one called - The World of the Future - ROBOTS, by Hayes Usborne written by Gatland & Jefferis. That was the one that I latched onto circa 1984. I was then 11 years old. Don't remember much about it now other than I seem to recall the graphics fascinating me. Man that has been such a long time ago. Would love to come across it again. Good video.

Congratulations. Hope the launch goes well. I have a vague memory of seeing the book in the library. It was the Usborne programming and electronics books that really took my interest. I still have a similarly tattered and loved collection. They were really well put together books.

I still have those! They taught me to programme and I even made a robot controller with bits from Tandy!
