Actually now that I think about it maybe I can agree with LS Mark and say: *You probably can't kill the Cat.* This is the very creature that's strong enough to endure a harsh car crash like nothing having consistently treating abuse like sick amusement, fast enough to vanish from people's line of sight and appear right next to them multiple times making a blur in the process that one time he did the whole S.L.O.W and S.H.I.T vehicular joke, can throw off people in more ways then one flawlessly even going by to plan out the whole thing and pretty much does anarchy to the our normalities doing anything he wants for the fun of it... And unlike the seemingly pacifistic version of the original THIS version of the Cat In The Hat is not afraid to fight dirty *(Remembers the Cat with a Bat Meme as an example.)* So if he wanted to he can kill us all is the scary part as he is clearly unbound by our rules.

@@metademetra I think one of the reasons is that The Grinch makeup had hair going past Jim's cheek bones and was designed with wrinkles on top of natural wrinkles in the face, allowing exaggerated expressions through otherwise restrictive rubber and plastic. The Cat uses a similar makeup style, but not the method. In their attempt to make whiskers, they halted the fur at the cheeks and applied a prosthetic nose. This would be passable with a decent palette choices for the face, but they applied the same heavy plastic without wrinkles. So Myers looks like he was in a cutout more than looking like an actual character.

I disagree. I think a lot of people are watching the trailer and expecting something they shouldn't. Cats is a Broadway musical first and foremost, and Broadway fans are going to be their first concern. No, just listening to the Hamilton soundtrack doesn't count as making someone a fan. Every person I know seriously into the theater is looking forward to this movie. We can see the stage influence. Non-theater people are expecting a movie where the cats look like real cats. They don't onstage since they are humans in cat costumes. And since this is an adaptation of that, the overall appearance is something that won't change. It would be like making Christine Daeé (most theater people think that movie is bad, because it is, but I digress) into a 25-year-old woman who is very mature and has short blonde hair. The whiplash would throw the audience who know the source material the best. (This is also why Victoria, the white cat, is still white despite being played by a half-white-half-black dancer--she's meant to stand out on stage as the only white cat, an innocent kitten who dances instead of sings.) I can't wait for the movie.

Dude that Dick and Jane story was epic! I knew Dr Seuss was talented but I had no idea he was THAT AWESOME!
@Vannabee135 жыл бұрын
Oh, the story of how Suess wrote the Cat in the Hat is an awesome one. It actually started when someone wrote an article that called out the Dick and Jane books for being boring and the reason the U.S. was performing terribly in language arts compared to the rest of the developed world (The books were boring so kids didn't want to learn how to read) and then out right called out Dr Suess daring him to write a better one. Suess at the time wrote books for 7-8 year olds and never wrote a book for early readers (5-6). He took on the project thinking it would be easy but had major issues when he realized the limited vocabulary he was bound by (the only 100 or so words a 5/6 year old could be expected to read) made it nearly impossible to write a coherent story with an actual plot. It took him a year and a half (Hell, the first Twilight book was shitted out in three months), and it completely revolutionized children's literature. It was literally the first of it's kind. No early reader book before told an actual story. They were literally all like the Dick and Jane books, just random sentences (See the red ball, the ball is red, red red red, etc.)

I love Theodore Giesel. Before becoming a children's writer he was a political cartoonist who lambasted the American government for not getting involved in WW2 faster. He was such a salty, petty, angry man, but deeply believed in his stance on helping children no matter where they came from or what they were struggling with and he focused his intense anger so well to make something to spark their imagination and desire to learn. I'm a kindergarten teacher for a living and every time we finish our phonics work early the kids want to use the extra time to hear "Green eggs and ham" read to them.

I'd love to see a movie about Dr. Seuss himself. The guy had a very interesting career. He wrote his first book on a whim because he was taking a cruse and liked the rhythm of the boat engine, so came up with a rhyming story to go with it, and the ONLY reason he was able to get it published was because he literally bumped into an old friend walking down the street who just happened to have just started a job at a publishing company. And that's just the start of his career. The story of how the Cat in the Hat came to be is also fascinating and probably worthy of it's own movie just for that.

It made me extremely uncomfortable for reasons that I couldn’t articulate at 9 years old and it significantly damaged my trust in kid-oriented media. When I saw the notification: "Yes! I get to see Kyle rant about a failed movie adaptation!" Sorry Krimson, I thrive in your pain. Edit: 'Dr Seuss wrote the books to spite Dick and Jane' Like how Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet to make fun of fleeting 'love at first sight' of teenagers.

I think it's because Jim Carrey's Chaotic acting style kinda fits right in with Seuss' stories. Mike Myers is a bit more reserved, and his attempts to be over the top happen in all the wrong places.

Yes. This movie would be Alec Baldwins lowest point in his career. The cat in the hat…and nothing else.

Honestly, as a kid, I really did enjoy this movie just because of how stupid and ridiculous it was. It's a part of my childhood I'll never forget. I get why some people despise it, but it'll always hold a special place in my heart. That being said, it was fucking hilarious seeing you rip it to shreds like this.

Dr. Suess was awesome...and the fact he took great pride in forcing Dick and Jane out of librbaries just made my day. I salute you, Dear Dr. I salute you. And when I first heard they were making this film, I was actually excited. Then I saw the preview, and I was horrified. I knew it was going to be a trainwreck.

They tried to get some of the 2000 The Grinch's success. Thing is, that movie was good and Jim Carrey was perfect for the role. They tried to do the same here but relied too heavily on the quirky set and getting another well known comedian in the lead. At least for me The Grinch was great. It's my favorite Christmas movie.

I would make an argument for Bella having to much personality too. Though, maybe choices is a better term. You're supposed to be able to insert yourself in her place. However, the choices she makes are things that a lot of people would never do. Or would even want to do. As for this movie, I saw it as a child amd hated it. The jokes weren't funny, I agreed with Conrad being sent to military school, I felt bad for the mother, a lot of the adult humor was pointless (especially since my mother wasn't watching with me), and while I didn't find the cat scary, I was incredibly bothered by thing one and thing two. It was a mess.

I didn't know about the good Dr.'s disdain for Dick and Jane, but that just makes me like him more. My mom made my brother learn to read using those (circa 2002/'03) and both he and I hated them with a passion. Even back *then* I realized how asinine (and outdated) they were. Also, I remember seeing the movie in theaters when it first came out and being absolutely terrified. So there's that.

When it comes to the part about Mike Myers being a diva. I’m curious as to whether or not, he was always like that or if it was slowly growing during the production because of the costume. With the Jim Carrey, how the Grinch stole Christmas. Apparently, the costume was an absolute nightmare. It was heavy extremely hot and the contact lenses he had to wear were painful. In fact, apparently, he had to get, and I’m not joking, here training in methods to withstand torture, to be able to get into the right mental state to be able to perform while wearing it. So it makes me wonder how miserable Mike Myers was during the production and his diva personality was just him trying to get something out of a bad situation he was probably contractually obligated to be in. Also, apparently, this movie was so bad that Dr. Seuss’s wife forbid Hollywood for making any more live action movies of Dr. Seuss. That’s why Horton hears a who and the Lorax were animated.
