Thank you for speaking out against the ongoing genocide in Gaza by Israel. People like you give me hope that not everyone will accept this blatant dehumanization of Palestinians and the denial of their basic human rights. Thank you for your conscientious, just and compassionate stance!

First of all, thank you for continuously speaking up about Palestine. Second, I think this is one of your best videos because you were able to link the books you read to current events, essentially proving why fiction matters and how it can reveal the world we live in. 💙

I have watched your videos for years and I usually don't comment on them, but I want to say how much I appreciated this one. Thank you for the recommendations and for speaking so clearly on the horrible things that are happening in the world right now. It is so important to have perspective on these conflicts and on the role that history has played in the current events. Also, in general, I just really enjoy your videos! :)

I read Somewhere, home by Nada Awar Jarrar, first published in 2003 and Palestine isn't free there either. It's about mostly Lebanese family who fled the war in their country to Australia. Some of them refused to put their lives on hold just because there's war in their country and it probably won't end anytime soon. Some of them waited to come back to their homecountry when the fighting ends. Some of them let go of their roots, some of them cling to them. I remember scene from there when mother returned from Australia to Lebanon, to her home. Her children (born and raised in Australia) didn't fell like they belonged. They didn't speak Arabic and their Lebanese relatives didn't know English well. The book is like 200 pages long btw.

One thing I admire about Pride and Prejudice is how realistic/how Austen handles Elizabeth and Darcy’s miscommunication/misleading impressions of each other. It doesn’t ever feel forced or contrived. I understand why they are taking their positions against the other. That’s something writers can struggle with why writing any enemies or rivals to lovers romance.

That's exactly why it is my favorite romance. It's believable. I also love how they make the other person genuinely better.

The way you spoke about cleopatra and Frankenstein, I think you might want to check out prep by Curtis sittenfield. It’s been a few years since I read this but it’s a book I couldn’t put down and I’ve never hated a main character more. Any friend I’ve lent it to had the same experience and it’s really interesting reader experience to appreciate the writing but being left uncomfortable.

I for a long time don’t know if I want to pick up Cleopatra & Frankestein because I’ve heard a lot of people didn’t like the book. But you liking the book just elevate my rating of getting it, I think ☺️ I loveeeee The Lovely War when you recommended it and I trust your view on this one

I actually loved VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE when I read it. It was a 4 or 4.5 stars for me. But I loved THE HACIENDA even more. 5 stars. Isabel Canas writes incredible prose. CLEOPATRA AND FRANKENSTEIN sounds amazing! And MINOR DETAIL sounds like a great read. I read 10 books in October. Not doing so well this month, though!
@lindaleehall Жыл бұрын
I loved Vampires of el Norte because it wasn’t a typical vampire horror story. The historic atmosphere and the culture of the Mexican rancheros enriches the story. And the origin and nature of the vampires is brilliant. So much more than a vampire/horror story. The Hacienda also has a wonderful, culturally rich atmosphere.

That kind of generalisation of "the west"'s attitude towards Israel feels very weird and ironically US-centric, because while in my (western) country people discuss the genocide and what should be done about it in prime time tv talk shows, I keep hearing that it's somehow a censored topic 'in all western countries'(??) which just makes that statement feel empty Also, I do get why Israel is being referred to as a colony/settler state, but that very wording implies that Israelians have some sort of home that they should be returning back to, which is weirdly ambiguous in itself and which - if things went the way that the terrorists and other antisemites want them to - they certainly wouldn't have. I want peace and freedom and democracy and prosperity for everyone, and none of that will be reached by murdering or demonising anyone.

Having grown you in fundamentals Christianity it is because people believe doing these awful things will bring back christ. I was taught to pray for these things to happen. I think that is the worst part. Knowing that young children are being taught to pray for this. And christ will be here and it is the word of God that these things happen 😢
