Just so you know, the father , Mister, was voiced by Don DC Curry. By the time he did the recording his voice had gotten 2 or 3 tones deeper than when he premiered on Comic View, but he has been doing comedy for a looooong time He is literally an unsung legend.

It’s been a minute since this show tried to do anything with emotional weight behind it. All that stuff was in season 1, with Riley painting their parents, and Huey confronting his old friends. Season 2 and most of this season were completely devoid of anything like that. And yeah, the jokes are funny, but after a while, it just starts to feel like these characters are just jokes, rather than characters. I mean, I said it in a previous episode, Tom’s wife NEVER had any signs of being unfaithful to him. But then she becomes a completely different person when the show feels like having a joke about her cheating on Tom. It’s things like this that are why the Simpsons started to degrade in popularity. The show runners had established the personalities of the characters, and then threw away their personalities for the sake of a joke. Sh*t like that is how you lose fans. The Simpsons was a juggernaut, and it lost a decent chunk of *its* fans when it did that to one of the side characters. And honestly, I can see where the rot began to start with this show. What would eventually become the season that shall not be named? I would go so far as to say that it got its start from the writers getting used to ignoring who their characters are for the sake of a joke. “Who cares, it’s a cartoon.” Yeah, that’s why you’re here, watching five guys react to a nearly decade old show. Because you don’t care about it.

Spencer Whiteway season 1 was the 2nd worst and a very boring season of boondocks.. boondocks gained its fanbase once it became more of a parody... the 3rd is the highest rated most viewed and personally my favorite season

Spencer Whiteway i clearly said ratings too.. but popularity has alot to do with quality.. every shows goal is to leave a lasting message on the consumer and get as large an audience it can... alot of boondocks most remembered moments were in season 2 and 3... the ones in 1 were also paroies like the pulp fiction reference or pure comedy like ed wuncler getting shot out the window or usher.. boondocks is multi faceted and when they decided to have a good balance of comedy, message, and relatability.. was when it became iconic.. let me guess huey’s your favorite character?

you made some good points. but i think even with the direction the show went into, it still handled it well. i think the material is there for some of the stuff youre mentioning even if the show flanderizes it a little bit. like sarah's implied cheating isnt entirely out of nowhere, since its been established they dont have the most satisfying relationship. sarah is looking for any type of excitement tom cant provide, and cheating or having a character contemplate that is an easy way to express that. as far as the characters go, its cool to see the characters actually have more depth to em, but at the end of the day, this is a satire before anything else. and satire's usually have character traits more than super fleshed out characters, characters are usually there to represent an archetype that is parodied in said satire. in satires, characters are pretty much tools to make a social commentary or political statement about something. the rot was when aaron mcgruder left, and all the creative could think about was how much people laughed at riley being ignorant, and the fights n shit. so they just ended up doing a half-assed version of what they think mcgruder was doing with the show. seems like the only time season 4 remembered what the show was about, was in the civil rights episode. was the only episode that felt like something aaron mcgruder would actually make
