This show was and is still amazing. For those that don't know, the whole Mini-Mart shootout was an allegory for the Iraq War with Gin Rummy and Ed Wuncler III playing the part of the belligerent Americans shooting up the place for a completely fabricated reason ("the cashier has got a gun" instead of "Iraq has WMD's"). Also, Gin Rummy's line about "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" is a direct quote from Donald Rumsfeld as justification for the invasion at the time.

they literally are Rumsfeld and Bush. The pun on Rummy is pretty obvious, and Ed wears a giant "W" chain because George W. Bush was often called "Dubya" to differentiate him from his dad George Bush sr.

Fear of going to jail is what terrified me the first time I grew weed. It's legal where I am now so it's not really a problem anymore, but this was like 15 years ago. I find this episode very profound because people make jokes about people being assaulted in prison constantly, but they usually don't just flat out use the term used in this episode. Hearing that term said out loud so often in the episode strikes most people as ridiculous, but they don't realize how ridiculous it is that it's normalized to make those types of jokes, just as long as you don't actually use the term a*n*l r*p*.
