Hood Masterpiece Theatre. I read it when it started out as a newspaper comic strip in late 1999. The creator Aaron McGruder somehow got this groundbreaking trailblazer of a show onto broadcast television in 2005. The fact it retains the creators vision and his authentic creative voice is a GD miracle. The series ran for four seasons, but purists only acknowledge the first three as canon. The fourth one is not considered due to the network uninvolving creator Aaron McGruder from his own project. The universally panned fourth season is wildly dismissed and considered a gross misshapen monstrosity ill conceived Frankensteinian train wreck dumpster fire flaming bag of Jurassic Park T-Rex Dino sh*t reeking of studio meddling and misguided corporate mismanagement of an extremely profitable IP run into oblivion. The three seasons of The Boondocks remain a force of nature unicorn signifying sound and fury with its pull no punches social commentary and holding a mirror up to the political hypocrisy baked into this country's Constitution that plays fast and loose with a revered document where literally racism written into it that still governs this great Nation thus guaranteeing anything progressive never lasts and all minorities stay steeped in a cycle of self sabotaging poverty and mutually assured destruction. The genius of the show is it takes this deep central idea which is as dead serious depressing as a documentary on the same subject which shows how a marginalized seb-section of this country is an American tragedy yet turned it into one of the greatest American comedies ever produced on network television. The fact it was made over twenty years ago yet still speaks to the current state of affairs in today's America is a testament to how forward thinking and revolutionary McGruder's concept was and is while at the same time an unbelievably sad commentary on how little anything ever changes at all still this many years down the line later. The episode Pause which is a barely veiled critique takedown parody if not outright roast and character assassination of Taylor Perry is perhaps its most controversial but finest hour. It's impossible to judge as every episode from the first three seasons are high quality and irrefutable unmitigated masterpieces. Yeah, I ride Boondocks d*ck, side saddle its nuts, I say it proudly. wut up.
