The long and short of the game really is, "There's a vault (probably) on Pandora, and everybody wants what's inside". In the game, the chick from Atlas did in fact show up and die to the Vault monster, but the key was just a physical key, and the monster did drop good loot. I do not know why they chose to have characters from the second game, rather than the full cast of the first, nor do I know why they seem to have intentionally miscast every character, but those are certainly decisions they made.

Why did the duck cross the road? Well after the heist, "the Duck" and "the Road" had about $800 million in diamonds. As we all know, greed is a sinister mistress, and began whispering in "the Duck's" ear. Now he didn't know it, but at the same time, greed was whispering her seductive song into "the Road's" ear as well. It was just lucky happenstance that "the Duck" crossed "the Road" before "the Road" could cross "the Duck," or so "the Duck" has to tell himself. You see, "the Duck" and "the Road" were life long friends, and had been through a lot together. Telling himself that "the Road" was planning to cross him by killing him and stealing the diamonds for himself, is the only shield "the Duck" has to keep guilt at bay. We all know, much like greed, guilt is a torturous mistress....

Kevin Hart as a stoic, serious tough guy? 65-year old Jamie Lee Curtis as a socially inept, Whedon-esque scientist in her mid-30s? Cue Steve Buscemi's "how do you do fellow kids?". 55-year old Cate Blanchett as an adventurous gal in her early 20's? The fact she still managed to turn in the only genuinely good performance in this movie, despite being ill-fit for the role and being held back by an abysmal script, speaks volumes about her acting abilities. Fyi for teb people who don't know. Tiny Tina is just a demolition girl. Her role in bl2 is to blow up a train so your character can go in and grab the thing they're looking for. She was experimented on but with eridium not because she's an alien clone. She's not that deep either like tahts pretty much all she does. Edit: Forgot to mention because everyone else reminded me, she does get more fleshed out in her dlc "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep". She had a father daughter relationship with Roland before he dies and DND campaign is just her trying to move on from his death. She comes back in 3 but again, it's a minor role where she helps you. So, for those comment surfing who haven't played the games, here's a rundown on Tiny Tina: Tiny Tina is an insane 13-year-old(at the time of BL2) demolitions expert who was experimented on when she was younger using Eridium (this mysterious purple stuff that flows below Pandora's crust, that's a whole other rabbit hole) not because of aliens or clones, but because Handsome Jack(the main antagonist of BL2) was like "hey, why not? I'm the hero and these helpless people are just bandits, let's see what this Eridium stuff does!" Tina's parents died horribly in the experiments, but Tina escaped because her father had her hide a "rock" (actually a grenade) on her person so she could escape. Fast forward until the events of BL2. Her whole home(the inside of a mountain, which she probably blew up) is wired with mines and rockets everywhere, she's got two stuffed bunnies wired to massive warheads she calls "badonkadonks" she's got a lazy eye, and she's quite manic. Roland and her met some years ago, and he admits that she's saved his butt more times than he can count, the two have an adoptive father-daughter relationship. As for the main story, she helps you blow up a train containing a power core and a boss fight(but Handsome Jack's propaganda states the train was full of orphans and puppies, which I wouldn't put past him to do so as he wanted you to take that core and knew you would be blowing up the train.) She's not a genetic clone, or an alien, or anything. She's just a traumatized, barely-held-together, insane child with a knack for explosives. Some other details about the games: Atlas was a corporation, not a person. The main BL1 antagonists employed by Atlas Corp as part of their mercs the Crimson Lance were the (theorized to be a possible siren) Commandant Steele (you don't actually get to fight her because The Destroyer impales her as a surprise gift for opening the Vault) and in the DLC, the CL antagonist is General Knoxx; a grizzled old dude who is armed to the absolute teeth and then some, hates everything and everyone, and is most likely HIGHLY depressed. Roland is physically tall and jacked ex-Lance merc, and is a natural leader. He's a *VERY* serious person, and pretty imposing. He's also completely clean shaved, muscular as HELL, and Kevin Hart playing him is an absolute insult. Krieg doesn't show up until the BL2 character DLC, and is a psycho with split-personality. His OG personality tries his best to keep the new one from hurting as many innocents as possible. Instead of Krieg they should've had Brick, the Berserker. He likes his hammer, punching things, and hitting things with his hammer. He's not the smartest, but he's huge, hugely strong, and fiercely protective of his friends and the things he loves (like his puppy, which Handsome Jack murdered). He's also got more of a sense of humor than Roland. Sometimes. ClapTrap(CL4P-TP) despite being annoying is actually THE most sardonic, sarcastic, and depressed character in the games (after the events of certain in-universe events, he's left as the last of his whole product line in existence, which has him pretty bummed out to say the least.) He's forced to sound cheery and optimistic because that's what his programming says, but believe me he is everything BUT happy. Tannis is a brilliant scientist originally hired by Dahl Corp., but over the course of her work went insane, and now spends her time talking to her best friend Clyde the ceiling chair, when she's not conducting research on the ancient Eridian civilization. No, the chair doesn't physically exist. Also, she believes bacon to be for "sycophants and products of incest". Moxxie is the mother of Scooter and Ellie, and while she's known for being VERY promiscuous(her ex-husband count is in the double digits, she dated Jack at some point, married the merchant Marcus, also dated drunk prodigy sniper Mordecai, she has no actively with uploads her nudes to the public ECHOnet, and half of Pandora has either had sex with her or wants to have sex with her, women included) her "classy bordello girl" aesthetic is a front as an "F-you" to her redneck clan family(which is stereotypically very incestuous), she hides a strong redneck accent and is a whiz with robotics and mechanics, much like her kids. She looks younger than she is, and used to run death arenas for her hand in marriage until her ex-bf Handsome Jack shut her biz down. Marcus is the epitome of a greedy salesmen. Literally, he had all of his competition on Pandora killed, he sells to everyone and WILL NOT GIVE REFUNDS, EVER. Not as long as he's sober, at least. Don't ask for one, you'll get shot. Hopefully these details help put into perspective how badly the movie fucked everyone up.

Something that should be repeated like a gospel: Movies adapted from video games aren't bad because the source material is inherently hard to adapt or "there's nothing to adapt" (the excuse that brainlets like the hack who wrote Doctor Strange and a bunch of mid generic "teen pop" horror movies used to defend his other hack friends). The fact is that most of the time the clueless execs put these projects in the hands of hacks who think they're so hot shit for working on TV and the movies, so they think they know better and leave their stink all over the project, then when it fails they always blame it on the material or the "fans not accepting their oh-so-original vision" instead of accepting that they just suck at film making and storytelling. Actually I think adapting video games with little to no plot is WAY easier than say a book or a TV series, having a plot skeleton of "A, B, and C" acts like a structure that you can write a bunch of cool stuff to fill in the gaps of plot and characterization to compensate for the loss of gameplay, but yeah, that's if you're not a lazy hack and at least try to understand what you're working with, which the recent success of some game adaptions has proven. What I'm trying to say is: The duck crossed the road because Eli Roth sucks and his only accomplishment is being Tarantino's friend.

Tiny tina literally saw her parents die killed the person who did it. Lilith always had her powers and knew of them, Roland is a soldier who has a portable turret, Krieg isnt even supposed to be there, and even so, Krieg spouts nonsense the whole time cause he a psycho.Patricia Tannis isnt that important and should be a side character. Its easy to make a game adaptation by taking one of the stories from borderlands and just make that into a movie. Borderlands 2 is perfect for that by far. Handsome Jack being the villain is a great . The dialog and story getting to the vault before he does is amazing. Honestly seeing it in action would be awesome. But somebody wants to make it like thwy the ones who came up with it which leads to disappointment and doomed to be a failure.

Who we kidding the biggest flaw this movie had was the awful casting. Everyone was miscast. This movie was built around their shitty cast and the game was pretty much ignored.

Lilith looking so old in this film really is emblematic of how tired and out-of-touch the Borderlands franchise and its brand of humor has gotten over the years.

Ah, The Magic Voyage. I'd forgotten it was called that. I seem to remember the babbling being a problem, but ~5-year-old me thought there were some redeeming qualities. But ~8-year-old me couldn't remember what they were and thought it was disappointing when re-watching it. So, watch it when you're younger than 8.

Actually, the Warcraft director was a HUGE fan of the source material to the point where it hindered the movie. His fandom got in the way of the movie.

Personally, as a fan of the original warcraft titles, I thought the movie was really good and was happy to see that it DIDNT lean into the WOW lore that killed the franchise (for me). But alas most went in expecting WOW and got a story they didn't realize was a precursor. This is what happens when you retcon all your old source material for the new bs.

@vanillabatcave5677 ops talking about how the story was written using only the original warcraft games story. It excluded anything from world of warcraft, which is what most wow fans though it was going to be, considering it was at wow's height of popularity.

I mean, typically Claptrap shows up at the beginning and then is relegated to mop around the hub area, so you can ignore him if you want to Except in Pre-Sequel because he is a protagonist, but even then he is quite a capable fighter so he is at least tolerable

Video game shows work much better than video game movies. Also, video games can do both amazing gameplay and amazing storytelling. Also, the gameplay of the last of us was great, played it recently and if we're strictly talking gameplay, then still holds up. But even if you don't agree with the last of us take, there's other examples of great gameplay and story.

6:52 That post thread on a similar Doom is hilarious, and really sums how bad and overplayed self aware dialogue is nowadays. Everything can't be "Guardians of the Galaxy," and even it had some dignity and agency. In regards to your F-Zero remark, ironically it probably would make a good movie, as characters like Captain Falcon have actually had backstories, and such, but as you said they'd have to do more then race. Plus it has so many characters it'd be difficult to fit them in a single movie. There was an unsuccessful anime about F-ZERO that was actually pretty good even though it changed some characters personalities, and backstories around a bit, and focused on a new character who isn't the fan favorite Captain Falcon. (Falcon doesn't do much until later in the series.)

Much like how Warcraft movie should have just been Arthas' story from Warcraft 3, Borderlands movie should have been Borderlands 2 and revolved around Handsome Jack delusionally believing he's the good guy while everyone gets screwed trying to rectify his evil villainy.

Nope, nope, nope, we can't have stories about how taking moral shortcuts results in the well-meaning becoming even bigger monsters than the monsters they set out to fight. Or at least, they can't become the villains. No. That is against the Narrative. Everyone must be primed to believe that it is better to surrender to despair, take the easy way out, and sacrifice inconvenient principles for immediate results. Otherwise, they might not help the elites load all their neighbors onto the cattle cars "for the greater good"...

It's been a fat minute since I played Borderlands 1 or 2, but that actually sounds somewhat similar to the first game, but bastardized with the popular elements of the series, namely Lilith and Tiny Tina, Tina wasnt even in the first game, but was a popular character because 13 year old explosive experts are funny i guess. Lilith, I remember was actually a pretty serious character with a pretty intense story in the first game, i dont remember her being any sort of sarcastic and goofy at all, in fact, i remember the goofy nonsensical aspect of borderlands was more a secondary thing to some fairly compelling character arcs, especially regarding Lilith and Handsome Jack. It sounds like they just grabbed a bunch of things from the game series and Mad Lib'd a story out of them.

If you want the whole story of the first game, erase Tiny Tina from the movie entirely, only have Claptrap in the first scene, make Dahl a siren (only 6 in the universe at any given time and all female), and make everybody's motivation for opening the vault the fact that they think it's filled with ancient technology and weapons more advanced than what they have and other fabulous prizes. There you go, the whole story of the first game, which isn't as good as the second, but that game was only the quality it was because Gearbox gutted the budgets of other games they were working on at the time, namely Alien: Colonial Marines. If you don't know, when that game came out it was probably worse than Duke Nukem Forever, which is impressive to say the least.
