THE BORDERS RAILWAY: Dullest part of the UK? Definitely not. I visit Melrose, abbey and River Tweed.

Never think one of your trips is uneventful or boring; many of us will never be able to visit these places and its wonderful to have such a knowledgeable guide! Thank you for showing us around.

The line was not a branch. It was a double track mainline which ran from Edinburgh to Carlisle and closed completely in the late 60's. The closure left the lowlands of Scotland almost rail free. In it's day it was a vital freight artery with freight trains going as far north as Dundee and Aberdeen. Unfortunatly it never really carried a heavy passenger traffic and with the demise of railfreight from the mid 60's the beancounters in Glasgow declared it surplus to requirement. Up to it's last day of closure it had a sleeping service from Edinburgh to London.

Lovely video. However the castle at 1:20 is Borthwick Castle. Dalhousie Castle is about a mile to the west as the train passes the Scottish Mining Museum, but is not visible from the train.

Thanks for visiting my home area, Scott. You should return, and do more exploring. There are further abbeys to visit in Dryburgh, and Jedburgh. Peebles and Kelso are also worth visiting.

@@ReprievedSoul I know that, but as Melrose Abbey was one of the main features of the video, I thought I would mention the others.

I’m riding this route in a few weeks. For some reason I can’t get a train from Carlisle to Edinburgh before midday on a Sunday so I’m looking at this alternative (I’m having to drive to Tweedbank mind)

Sorry to have to correct you but the castle you have listed as Dalhousie Castle is in fact Borthwick Castle. I worked a season there in the late 80's.

Sorry if wrong. I was trying to identify it while editing the video, and I thought I spotted it from Google street view. It's an impressive structure.

Another great video and I must say that I really enjoy how you deliver your videos with all the historical information you give us. Beautiful scenery. Thanks my friend. Right now I am preparing myself for the WEST HIGHLAND WAY and I'm loving watching your videos as to be honest with you I don't watch mainstream TV.

Hi Ryan and thank for your kind words. Yes, the West Highland Way. I've don't many bite-sized parts of it, but I need to join these up one day. Good luck with your trek. Are you starting at Milngavie or Fort William?

@@PlanesTrainsEverything I will be starting in Milngavie as i stay in the East End of Glasgow. It's been a while since I've been out on the Hill so i plan on getting some Munros under my belt before embarking on the west HIGHLAND way. But I sure am looking forward to the journey and some solitude and beautiful scenery. Thank you for getting back to me my friend. Best wishes and take it easy 😎

That was brilliant thanks. The thing about Lonely Plant is that it's primarilly aimed at 18-21 year olds looking for a surrogate mother to guide them round all the dangers and annoyances of the world as they set off on their Gap Year or whatever. So if a place doesn't let you dance your t*ts off till 4 am it's Dull! P.S. there is a village called Dull in Perthshire - cue for a video?

Borderline - boring - - - - LOL nope - nice quick visit and saw some things I would like to check out. Also, I think you might need a time travel machine to find St. Dunstan's Well - I think??? 🤔

I was double-checking the well, and if still appears on current maps. I've since done some online research, and it had the full stone façade and so there's no way I could have missed something of that size. Maybe it was stolen and now sits proudly in someone's garden.

rather underwhelming video, annoying inappropriate music, nothing at all on the important places served enroute

Sometimes in this helter skelter, jet aged, move aside I'm coming through world that we live in, one learns to appreciate quiet backroads through underwhelming places. Quiet streams instead of deafeningly loud, thundering waterfalls. A single track narrow gauge railway line instead of a central station trackspread. As we mature, the simple things grow in magnitude I find. Think I'll have a cup of tea and a scone.

One has to remember that many KZbinrs are amateurs and comments like yours are bordering on the arrogant. If you have posted a video about the Borders Railway maybe you could send me a link so I can evaluate it. I enjoyed watching this video, and post videos myself - I never claim to be professional nor perfect, it's a bit of fun. KZbin is an entertainment media and I find Scott's videos entertaining, informative, and inspirational - so what's the problem?
Don’t miss STOW - charming village on the Scottish Borders Railway
