Cesare Borgia is frequently portrayed in stories as a despotic warlord, but whenever I read contemporary observations regarding his relationship with his sister he suddenly turns into a goofball. Even the letters he wrote to her showed how much he cared and worried about her. For her part, Lucrezia was the same. People often joked she worried about Cesare as if she were his mother. And when he died she was inconsolable.

My theory is that since Vanozza was a courtesan, Cesare perhaps was someone else's child which is why the pope always chose Juan over him in matters of politics. @@nightgirlmelody6987 Some people say they're glad it was canceled so we wouldn't have to watch how Cesare dies... but it's like any historical figure (and the cast would have acted the hell out of the fourth season if it had been made). The other show copped out and retconned it that Cesare survived and made it to North America, but that is just so much nonsense. Historically, he was killed in battle in Viana, Spain in March 1507, at the age of 31. When Lucrezia heard, she was devastated. I've read the 2-hour script that was meant as a quick wrap-up and it's pretty brutal in a lot of places. But as the years went on, that's what war did to Cesare - made him a much harder person. He and Lucrezia never stopped loving each other, though.
