The Borgias is a pretty good show it is not as good as the Tudors but it is still a good watch and it contains enough history to be interesting, until the 3rd season were it gets dump

Caesarea is actually shown very well. It is very fair to portray him as manic in fact there is a very big theory of him being bi polar.

Let me start off by saying I thought it was a very good show, with excellent acting, and fantastic historical setting recreation. With that out of the way, I have never watched a show with more detestable people than this. Every time Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander talks and his words struggle to move past whatever dental issue he has going on, I never want to stop punching him in the face. The children are worse. Of course Juan is insufferable. You tend to hate him from the very first second he comes on screen. But the other two, my god... Cesare with his little stupid snarl and lust for his sister. Whenever they lean in and get disgustingly close to each other, I imagine being 'the governor' from walking dead and introducing them to lucille, every day. The abandoned wife and mistress, just horrible people also. Just there for the transactional value of being sex objects in return for the lavish corrupt lifestyle. eugh. All the cardinals. There is only one character in the entire thing that I actually liked... King Charles of France. Hilarious wit and and doesn't give a F who he is calling BS on. If this show is good for anything besides shedding some light on the bottomless pit that is human evil, it's a perfect advertisement for why organized religion is all completely manufactured bullshit itself.

Tank you for watching my video, your reference to the walking dead and and Lucille made me laugh. Jeremy Irons is a great actor and honestly his dental work never bugged me, I just thought he was not fat enough to be Pope Alexander. I also really enjoyed King Charles of France, I just wish there had been more of him in the show, I feel he was very under used. If you are interested in the Borgia's I would recommend watching BBC's version from 1981, it is a little dated but well worth trying out as it is more historically accurate.

@@JessieBearBookClub Hahah I think my viewpoints came off wrong. I thought the cast and crew was amazing. The show was really engaging and entertaining. It's the deplorable nature of the Borgias themselves, channeled through the actors, that makes you hate them. So that's really an underhanded supreme compliment to them that they were able to capture one of the major families that has been associated with evil. The dental thing, lol... wouldn't really bug me, and I'm sure Irons is a fine guy in real life. All their traits are amplified based on how you view the character. For example, when Rodrigo/Pope Alexander spurns the advances of Venozza, the mother of his children, telling her that they can no longer have sex because the papacy demands celibacy, and in the very next scene runs off to spend the evening with his mistress... and no effort at all to try to hide it to anyone. That's when you start to find disgust in the little things. Like the cringe factor every time he refers to himself as "we" or "us..." So yeah, that's a long-winded way of saying that my criticism wasn't against the show. It was against the Borgia family, which I think is what the goal is and what they depicted very well.

@@AreolaGrande94 You aren’t meant to like them, historically they were vile and corrupt. The show succeeded splendidly by getting you to despise their characters

If you ever want suggestions/recommendations about (good) movies or shows about the past, may I suggest the "Hornblower" films (in order, there are about seven) starring Ioan Gruffuld? Americans have renamed the movies so that may be an obstacle for you. Although they are action films, (violence) they are more "family friendly" than most action films. So... characters can die on camera but no heads explode on camera. I would also recommend "Gladiator" but you already know that it is a great movie for people who can handle watching fictional violence. Finally for something a bit more jovial, I would recommend the "Black Adder" series. (Probably excluding the first season, you may be familiar with the phrase, "you always burn the first bun in the oven.") Although Americans usually struggle with British humour (if you are American.) I'm not British myself. "Black Adder the Third" is the best in my opinion (which may be wrong) while "Black Adder Goes Forth" (pun) is the planetary favourite. These should be enough for now, but feel free to ignore anything/everything above. These are merely suggestions, not demands or commands. Good luck for the future.

I hate how rushed the show is. Caesarea had his conquests start way too late in the show.

@@JessieBearBookClub I would also like to point out how in history Juan NEVER laid siege to Forli. Cesare was the one who laid siege and it was a victory
