I played half-life at a very young age, and I always was fascinated by the Black Mesa facility before the incident. The begining of the game was my favorite part, along with someother maps where you could feel how it was to work at the Black Mesa. I'm glad some people finally made a map for it, I was trying to learn mapping with GoldSrc to make my dream come true:^)

The fact that people want to explore more of a linear location shows how map and enviromental design is cool and important. I like to just walk around in games (especially open-world) and explore locations without worrying about enemies.

It's something I don't appreciate enough as an adult but when I was younger I remember trying to get out of maps in a lot of games, wanting to explore, whether it's the rooftops in halo 2 or stacking cars in GTA3 to get out of bounds, I used to love it. I suppose because now I know there's nothing out there I don't try to break out of maps as much unless it's to speed run, (Halo Reach for instance)

@@ESCalation I've been brainstorming on it for some time, it would be a pretty cool take on management builders where you have this whole risk reward system where different hazards pile on and can exacerbate each other but integrating different systems, research facilities and industries also offers a bigger payout. Would ultimately need a pretty robust system for managing disasters when shit hits the fan though, and that may be tricky.

It'd be interesting to see these types of mods strung together into a whole new campaign where Gordon just goes on his way to a test which later turns out to be the Hazard Course _way_ on the other end of the facility, doing mundane tasks and sidequests along the way, getting lost, and ending up in places he isn't supposed to be, getting stressed, being a jerk, and eventually getting drunk and passing out on the floor or a dining table somewhere, and it all happens _the day before the Resonance Cascade._ Which is why he's both late, throwing stuff at the staff, and screws everything up and causes the disaster. (One of the sidetasks involves secretly disabling the electrical safety protocols on the anti-mass spectrometer after discovering Magnusson took all the credit for his essay)

I love these little mods so much, especially the ones with the really in-depth lore you can read. Probably spent 100+ hours exploring them. It's very well done. I really can't wait until they're all finished, the dev(s) plans on fully interconnecting them, with some being connected by Tram system, or by a Security Jeep that will "drive" you from map to map with some being connected via paths already there. I also believe there are also plans later down the line to make a full PD Level 3 dormitories and a PD Dual Access map if there is one ever made. When these maps are all fully finished, it will be weirdly fascinating being able to go anywhere you want in Black Mesa, it will almost feel like a real facility, more than it already does. Also yeah the dialog gets old, I almost wish they would somehow get more unique dialog that's relevant to each map, but I honestly doubt we will ever get any such thing. I'm just happy these maps exist and people are actively working on them!

I am sure there are many people who would love to live and work in such a place... at least until this one specific day. A good background story like this, where people can really imagine to be part of this fantasy world, more than "just" being the protagonist in a specific story, lets the spirit fly.
