I actually bought this unit and played it for several hours now and I’m really pleased with it. Concerning the lack of lot’s of modeling of real live amps, that is not a negative thing for me. I just want a good sound and if thats accurate to the real thing is not something I look for. I actually only use the Boss amp models as they are the most useful for me. When setting it up for live use our sound guy reacted very positive on the natural amp model for instance. He said “if you give me that as a signal, I’m very happy”. So i used that and as a “dirty channel” I used the x-crunch model with a OD in front of it. Very happy with the results I got and the small form factor is just perfect for me. The less I have to carry around the better. Very pleased with this purchase

I agree 100% The Boss amps sound really good. In general, most modeled amps just sound sort of like what they're supposedly emulating. In my opinion it's mostly marketing. All you really need are really good clean, edge of break up, rock crunch, and lead tones, and you're good to go, IMO. If you're a metalhead then you need a couple of super high gain tones, too.

I actually love this unit after some time.....global EQ is your best friend with boss units. High cut 6.3 low cut at 100 and should be golden. Most high gain amps are fine at 6.3 only a few I dial my back to 5 k....they become much more realistic and feel genuine under the fingers much more than all the competition 👍🏻💯

I have the GX-100. I set it up with three main patches-- clean, slightly dirty, and crunch. Each main patch has several levels of gain using O/D pedals or toggling the amount of amp gain, as well as a selection of effects. I pick one of the three main patches for a song, and operate it in stompbox mode (aka manual mode) so I can turn on and off effects such as tremolo, phase, chorus, delay, or O/D by using the switches on the GX-100 as well as an additional two-button footswitch in Ctrl 3/4 during the song. I'm glad I have all the switches so wouldn't want to settle for less switches in the GX-10. I just really like running in manual mode: that's more intuitive to me. More like a regular pedalboard. If I had to use the GX-10 I guess I would just make more a bunch of presets based on a foundational preset, but where each preset had different effects turned on or off, and then I would toggle between presets more than I do now. As it is now I always stick to a single preset for an entire song. The ability to assign multiple actions to a single switch could also be useful. For example, turn on or off delay, chorus, and a second reverb with the press of a single switch.That's a powerful feature of the GX-100 and GX-10 that can reduce pedal dancing quite a bit.

I’ve had 5 or so hours with mine, got it two days ago. So far blown away by the quality of sounds. Not really fussed that it doesn’t have 4 million amp sims as the ones they have are really good. The other noticeable difference between the 1000 core is the preset’s. They are incredibly useable (curated by half of the usual KZbin channel guys) and not covered with a million effects. Just good basic honest workhorse type of tones. Agree the touchscreen is so so but I’m using Bluetooth MIDI to my iPad and it’s perfect!

I’ve been gigging the GT1 for a while now and I just ordered this. As I Sing and play guitar at the same time (solo) and carry a lot of gear - im more drawn to the smaller units. And the fact this has all the effects and amp models I might need (and a lot more) with the touch screen and expression pedal is Win Win for me. I can’t be doing with tap dancing as I’m trying to sing at the same time. It’s all about nice and simple but quality. And this looks like a great upgrade for me. Can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ll probably set it up like I do the Gt1. First preset clean with the option of chorus, second present dirty with the solo/boost option etc. I don’t need a lot. Excited to see/hear what the acoustic simulator is like tbh. Sounds good on the gx100. From what I’ve seen/heard of the Gx100 and the few videos out already on the gx10 it seems with a little tweaking the sounds are very useable and impressive. And with that price it’s very attractive
@MaPa60Ай бұрын
This is for me, I love that Boss kept an expression/ volume pedal on it. I like the trend towards smaller units, the key is to put enough in it to be able to use it stand alone, while still being small enough to integrate on a bigger board with other pedals if needed. This seem to hit the sweet spot for flexibility, imo. Perfect one stop backup unit, and board for the odd mini gig. I had a Boss IR-200 and regret I flipped it. Would you say the amp simulation in the GX-10 is on par with that?
@kellygreeniiАй бұрын
Part of it is physics. Standard size floor units are heavy enough that they can withstand someone leaning on a foot pedal without the thing tipping over. But the smaller the unit becomes, the higher the possibility that the unit goes flying or flips over…and gets damaged.
@QuoVadis88Ай бұрын
I ordered one immediately. This is for me. Don't care about MIDI. Volume heeled turns on tuner. Very handy. The new patches are so good they cut back effects on those patches so you could hear the superior tonal capability. EVH said, "If it sounds good, it is good." So whether the patches model real world amps is irrelevant. The GX-10 does what I want it to do, right out of the box. I would use the Boss SDE-3 in the Effects Loop. Still have external CTRL 2, 3 and EXP 2. Bluetooth. If you want MIDI then get the GX-100. I wanted something that uses less stage real estate but still high quality. I could use one GX-10 in the Effects Loop of my guitar amplifier and another GX-10 in the Front End of the guitar amp. The GX-10 in the guitar amp effects loop would be mainly delay effects. The GX-10 in the front end of the guitar amp would be mainly overdrive effects. I have been using a Boss CP-1X Compressor in the front end of my guitar amp. The X-Compressor in the GX-10 seems to do what the CP-1X can do. So another reason to have a second GX-10. When you set the Speaker Type Value to Original, you get the built-in speaker of the amp you selected with AIRD PREAMP, saves time and needless dialing. Of course, you can select speakers and mics yourself if you choose to from the list. Speaker Type Value parameter USER1-16 lets you create an original SP TYPE by using a dedicated tool to load IR (Impulse Response) data into this unit. Download the dedicated tool from the BOSS website. Setting Speaker Type Value to OFF, turns off the Speaker Simulator. Setting the MIC Type Value to FLAT, simulates a mic with perfectly flat response. Produces a sonic image close to that of listening to the sound directly from the speakers (on site). This unit will sell in big numbers.

Most folks seem to want models of lots of amps. That being said the X amps are something quite underrated. They are an approach designed for the digital domain. They are very touch responsive and even do some compensations to allow intervals to ring through clearly even with higher gain amps. Their Aquiles heel would be the output section and the noisy loops. For instance when you do 4 cable method you never get a clean signal from the preamp without an undesirable amount of dry signal coming through, enough to alter the base tone. Even worst is the output filters section. It does not sound good and when you go into a cab or amp and disengage the internal cabs it also sounds odd. If you are planning to use this to send a signal FOF and one to your amp get a good power conditioner or hum x and plug everything in the same outlet because it is just a mess of ground noise. This is a shame because when you are using the device into a p.a. Or into a DAW it is a beast. While there several fixed blocks there are 3 blocks that can be just about anything. It does not matter how complex the signal path is it won’t choke. I have done patches with a gain amp and a clean amp and separate effect chains and all effect blocks on and it does not even flinch. If I switch to another patch it is smooth and immediate, no gaps. Most Boss stuff tends to be big on the bottom and sizzle on the top. A high cut between 4k to 5k and a low cut between 80hz to 100hz seems to do the trick. As for the Core once you integrate an external footswitch you have enough switches to do what you need.
@ideiaslivres8969Ай бұрын
Man, they are horrible! I had a GX100. It doesn't distort the bass like a real amp. It doesn't compress the sound like a real amp. The highs get a lot of distortion and volume, while the bass sounds like a clean amp. Muffled playing techniques sound horrible on it. It has some problem or deficiency in running IR, because the same IR on an external IRloader sounds much better than inside it.

i thought it was illuminating, when you said "trust" regarding these amp models, about the nature of amp modeling. you werent talking about trust, as in customer service or the unit holding up. youre talking about something that people can see and hear and test out, so there should be no need for trust in this mix at all, but youre right in that it is how people decide which of these units is popular. to me it highlights this area of ambiguity around modeling, the confusion in hearing the thing sound the same but never having it feel the same. you know, its like eating a fantastic slice of pizza (a food we have here in the u.s.) and saying you dont trust that its good because the restaurant seemed more like a restaurant that wouldnt have good pizza. to be very clear, this is not a criticism of your word choice. actually was going to comment that i am loving starting sentences with "Crucially,.." gunna borrow that. thanks as always

Touch screen and expression pedal built in feels a bit like it's made for Mr Tickle. Does it want to live on the floor or on the desk? To be fair I think many would be happy with that format. It seems like its mirroring the old multi-effect designs with all the effects + an expression pedal built in, and these tended to be used with an amp rather than headphones so putting it on the floor in front of the amp was how everyone used pedal board + amp. For me I plug headphones into a pod xt and it sits on the desk. If I replaced it, I'd want something that sat on the desk. If I had to put my headphones into something that had an expression pedal and foot switches - which seems like it wants to live on the floor - it'd be a bit of a stretch for the headphone cable. I get that they have an app but I'd want to be touching the touch screen and playing around and that would mean bending down. I guess it depends how many people who buy these boxes listen through headphones and put them on their desk, vs how many use some kind of speakers and see them more like pedals. But, I'd certainly think that they should have removed the expression pedal, which would have made the footprint smaller, and just had an expression pedal you can plug into it which goes on the floor for people who would have it sitting on their desk most of its life. Plus, if you own more than one of these boxes and either swap them in and out of a pedal board, or use both together presumably you'd soon wish they didn't all have an expression pedal on them?
@jimmywilliams3972Ай бұрын
John, you are not quite right with your thoughts on the flexibility of the GT 1000 core signal chain. It is just as flexible, it’s just that all the blocks are loaded all at once. You can move any block wherever you want. The chain has more divider blocks for more complex signal chains. The GX units as far as I can see only has one divider block.

After all the advertising for the GX10 on KZbin, I ended up buying the GX-100 for 500 euros instead. The difference is small, especially if you consider buying additional external switches for the GX-10. I previously had a Pod Go, and so far, I like the GX-100 more due to the dual amp capability and more user-friendly UI. However, there's a major downside: it doesn't have a separate speaker sim block; it can only be used with the amp model. This means I can play through my lunchbox tube amp with GX-100 using the 4-cable method through a cabinet, but I can't record it with the speaker sim. This is an unpleasant surprise, and now I'm considering whether to keep it or not.
@ll14m4nАй бұрын
However, I'm leaning towards keeping it. Objectively, at a price of 500, there are no alternatives; the weaker Pod Go is more expensive. A used Helix LT would be twice the price. Subjectively, I like how it sounds and feels on fingers (possibly due to the very low latency of Boss). All models with the prefix "X-" are good. The X-Hi-Gain has quite similar character comparing to the preamp of my 6505MH head, so I think I can dial in the tone I used to on the device itself.
@Yelbomsirhc129 күн бұрын
I don't think that's correct. I have a GX-100 and I can turn on and off the cabinet sim in a patch. You pick an amp, and then you go into the amp's sub-menus. You get to a menu where you can specify the cabinet, including specifying no cabinet at all. So for ampless gigs where I go straight into the P.A. I have my 3 main patches that have the speaker cab sim turned ON. But I alo copied those three main patches to 3 other user blocks, and edited them so they are exactly the same, but with the cab sims turned off. I kept the same patch names but added "NoSpkr" at the end of the name so I know it's the version with cab sim off. I use those patches when I go into a guitar amp. I go into the effects return if the amp has one, or I go into the front of the amp if it doesn't, but set up the amp so it is as neutral as it can be. Sounds great in all three use cases, but only after having spent a fair amount of time building patches to sound like I want them to.
@ll14m4n28 күн бұрын

May not have the physical TRS MIDI ports like most BOSS DEVICES, but you’ve got Bluetooth MIDI instead and presumably midi via USB ? I dunno about that but it’d be an idea to check if this would work with a CME WIDI uhost as well ? It’d be fairly straightforward if all goes well to pair up this far smaller unit as a desktop modeler where you can really take advantage of the touch screen and then like so many others have done with the 3 switch HX stuff build your own super wireless midi controller boards with actual decent gear like the pirate midi bridges. The full GX100 I think is fine but you’ll be stuck dealing with its switches. Mapping your own existing gear like I have would actually make a huge impact on workflow. You may want to try this idea out with your helix Floor at home as a super midi controller with all the scribble strips and route some audio via the GX10 & your stomp. You use both frequently up on your vertical stands, combining a helix floor to run it all would make a lot of sense. The BOSS gear has by far the lowest latency, gapless switching, a good few tricks to match presets to guitars in the input. I’d say carry on and give it a really good burn in. I wish I’d heard something from my guys at BOSS regards this as well. I see a lot of potential in the GX10

Maybe im outa my mind but it seems that could open up the capabilities of a 3 switch system maybe. Im not seeing in general devices utilizing this sort of approach fully. I don't care about dual outputs, but I think in theory you could pan one amp all the way left and the other amp all the way right and that way you would get separate amps coming out of the left and right outputs on the GX.

Honestly I ordered one and tried it. I sent it back. I was looking for a back up for my QC. The effects were great but the amp and cabs I could not get the hard digital sound from not sticking out. The build of it was great. Boss makes amazing gear but it just wasn’t for me.

Lack of MIDI a bit of a pain but the addition of the expression pedal is the main thing I have against it. Without that would have been a definite maybe back-up. Shame lots of great Boss FX in there and I'm not bothered that the amps aren't based on a specific real world one as long as they sound good.

I don't see how this solves a problem for musicians at the price point. There are models like the mooer ge or hotone, valeton etc.. that can solve much more problems for less money.
@ianparr1533Ай бұрын
Interesting that you think that BOSS not putting models of "named" amps into their floor units is a disadvantage in the marketplace, whereas that approach hasn't stopped the Katanas selling like hot cakes.
@thelolguy007Ай бұрын
@@ianparr1533 indeed - if it sounds good it sounds good
@darwinsayeАй бұрын
Personally, I really dislike the Katana style of model naming, because it describes levels of gain rather than character. Names like Clean, Crunch, Lead, etc., are foolish because - let’s say their “Crunch” is based on a Marshall Plexi character - well I personally use Plexi types sounds for their clean to edge of breakup more so than for crunch sounds. I’d rather the model names give me an idea of the tonal character of the amp, even if they have to disguise it for legal reasons, like calling an Orange model something like a Tangerine instead. That tells me a lot more about the sound than if they’ve decided to name that model “lead” or something, and then *I will decide whether that will be a “lead” sound or whatever else I may want to use it for.

I own a gx-100 and to be honest, I've found my self resonating more with the boss amps than the known amp models. I use 3 amps, deluxe reverb (the only named model I use), boutique and x-high gain. This lets me put down every sound I have in my mind. Therefore, I don't see the need for 40 other amps. That's just my opinion.
@thelolguy007Ай бұрын

Boss Amp modelling is weak compared to Fractal / Line 6 Helix / Kemper / Cortex etc - Both Boss and Zoom need to wake up and smell the coffee - just changing the outer shell and calling it different names is not going to cut it, also put better quality input and output jacks on your units Boss, your processors rust like crazy. Boss Gain sounds static - there is no dynamic to notes - and Zoom amp sims sound like they have just EQ 'ed one amp differently and called it different names. Sorry for being brutally honest guys - I still own a lot of Boss Pedals and Zoom processors - but fact is fact - how many agree with me? 🙂
@rafsnchzАй бұрын
I don't agree, to me it doesn't matter how "accurate" Line6's modeling is - to me it always sounds like crap, and no it's not a "me" issue, any other plugin or fx processor even cheap ass Boss GT1 sounds better to me.

I own the GX100 and the GT1000 core. I've owned the HX stomp in the past. Never had any physical issues with Boss gear and the 3-dimensionality to the Boss amps is superior to Helix in my opinion specifically in the responsiveness. The sounds have more nuance and complexity especially after playing with EQ. Additionally the low latency is great and is most awesome/hi quality when using modulation. I agree that some of the overdrives and distortions have too much high frequency so that could be improved. Lastly the user interface/software is very user friendly though I wish they would publish updates more frequently.
@theprogguitaristАй бұрын
I own the GT1000 and in my opinion the main issue is with the built-in IRs. They have this unpleasant honky/nasal midrange that doesn’t record well at all in my opinion. So changing to 3rd party IRs really improbed the sound for me. I will say that the amp models themselves are very responsive and the effects have an amazing 3d quality to them.

They just keep ignoring balanced outs when most of the comparable products do have them, even in the lower price range. For me, that is a major turn off.
@MartinKrijgsmanMusicАй бұрын
True, but I fixed that with passive (stereo) DI. Doesn't have to break the bank.
@cellarcatbandАй бұрын
@@MartinKrijgsmanMusic it is a solution, but it is still a workaround - additional cabling, additional device. Either you need a pedalboard, or you need to take more time to set it up on stage...

@@cellarcatband It is annoying indeed, but it works, so yeah. The patch cables and DI for my GX100 fit into its case so it's not a big deal for me. I'm also carrying a Fender FR12 and for bass gigs an additional subwoofer so the DI is the least of my problems ;-).

Boss mdp amps are great across the competition and make more sense than infinite run for unobtainiums. As lets be honest most of the playerbase never had a chance to play at least 25% of real amps offered in modelers so why to gaf about them? And all this accuracy debates every time are boring. Btw seems like you asked for a unit , but didnt like it or you are sad that they didnt send you it for free on launch :/ any more content for boss?
@rafsnchzАй бұрын
Personally I don't give a shit about "actual amp modeling" as long as it sounds good and so far from what I heard this sounds better to me that Line 6 stuff. I've really tried to like Line 6, but I just hate how much you have to tweak it to get a good tone. Helix native sounds like crap even compared to Amplitube or Guitar Rig.
