Dang. All it needed was the tiny screen from the Katana go for the tuner and to show what effect is selected so you don't have to carry a crib sheet to see what effect "yellow" is. Such a missed opportunity. Also, have the dang controls closer to the front! You know, where the player is. I don't play behind or on top of my amp.

I just got the Katana 100 version 2 a few months ago. I only use it as a backup amp and on the clean setting. Is it worth upgrading? I like the version 2 100 watt amp because it has that amp in the room feel and push to it. I can almost get fendery with it. My main amp is a Fender Hotrod 1x12.
@chrishyde12167 ай бұрын
Sounds delicious, but how much of that is Dagan's playing? I have never been able to get my 100 MkII to sound anywhere close to what I hear on KZbin. Or is it a volume issue, and are Katanas just not good at low volumes?

Just when I upgrade from the Mk.1 2x12 to a Mk.2 100 watt 1x12, they drop the Mk.3, i'll wait it out a bit and let some updates come out before I jump to upgrade again, but the new features certainly are a nice step forward for the range, we're getting closer to having that full "Tube Amp" Experience in an affordable, controllable combo
@JonDeth7 ай бұрын
I have a formal education in the science of engineering, shred and sweep style player and over a dozen rigs; it's literally the worst amp I own lol. It's one of the worst amps I have ever owned but ATM, it's an overhyped piece of crap. The volume implodes so at about 60%, they all muffle out. They're midrange dominant due to the speaker and low grade A/D and D/A conversion going on. Compared to a modeler for $150 and a $200 combo, these are just abominable pieces of crap. You can shred and advance as a player on it for sure, but it's nowhere near the quality of a valve. My Valeton GP200 puts it's modeling to shame as does my 12 year old Zoom G5 whether I switch the tube on or off. My intention isn't to be rude or insulting but persuade people to put their money elsewhere. *Everyone promoting these on youtube are paid channels which means the company pays them aside from giving them the gear to keep.* I see guys with small channels that get 3, 4 and even $5,000 all tube heads for keeps just with 80k subscribers, so these huge channels are getting an obnoxious amount of money which is why their reviews are so dishonest and corrupt.
@Guitarify7 ай бұрын
@@JonDeth I'm unpaid by Boss, or any company for that matter, and even when I worked at Sam Ash I took a hit on my commission selling Boss over the preferred brand, because when I was Gigging from 2016-2022, EVERYONE had a Katana, and NOONE noticed a difference between it's lead setting and a JCM800, except for the fact their ears weren't ringing the next day. Yes a tube amp has a sound and feel that when you solo it out, stand in the room with it and know what to look for, you wont get 100% from a Modeler, but if you're NOT Aa gear snob and don't want to spend 5x as much for it to be 10% "better" The Katana is hands down the BEST option. Put it in a blind shoot out with its competitors. I guarantee the Katana wins every time. Line 6 has gotten better but more expensive and their range is less diverse, Marshall are too busy making Bluetooth speakers and fridges to do anything with the CODE line.
@JonDeth7 ай бұрын
@@Guitarify I know you're not paid or compensated by Boss, but as mentioned I have a formal college education in the science of electrical/electronics engineering, am a "cliche" shred and sweep style player, and have over a dozen amps. *The Katana does a great job performing it's menu of functions, but there's also a lot of ways it falls short.* Maximum useable volume is #1 based on my collection. I have a Gamma G50 which to be fair, is designed by Acoustic, but I can put it to 100% volume and it's fully functional at that level. Brand new, I paid $140 with tax and a warrant so if I drop it out of a moving car, it gets replaced. This amp with a 150-$200 modeler is many steps above the Katanas. My Katana is a humble amp from my overall view. The modeling of my 20 year old Behringer Vtone uses their pirated Tech21 Sansamp circuit and it's modeling blows away the Katana. *Now, as far as something brand new, the Katana is ultimately going to be the most bang for the buck without someone piecing something together for a little more money.* If you could barely play 3 chords, the Katana still performs well enough that in a couple years, you can be playing Satriani or SRV or John Mayer; virtually anything you would want, it can provide it. In terms of overall sound quality, It's just okay, far from phenomenal. A Mooer GE150 with that Gamma puts the Katana to shame in every single area, right down to having a far superior 12" in it.

@@janusn9 any amp with a "Line Out" has it specifically so you can send the signal directly into another amp including guitar amps, or P.A. system. I'm unfortunately unhappy with my Katana, but that's because the stock woofer is way too midsy and the 50-watt amplifier buckles at around 65-70% volume and is just mud and trash. I'm sure if I had bought the head or the 100-watt combo I would be raving about them like everyone else. I have other 50-watt combos that put it to shame. In fact, I wonder if I post an add maybe someone will trade me my combo for their Katana head! lol Then I'd be on the K-Team!

I've been gigging an Artist for more than a year no...LOVE IT! Still have one little ole problem....JUST one....if you use an expression pedal to get Wah....you can't turn the wah off with the pedal. So you STILL have to have a dedicated pedal in front of the amp meaning more wires to trample on and trip over and a battery dependent wah. I LOVE the GFAC-EX and it is EASY to set up....but not being able to toggle the Wah eats my lunch! My one and only complaint. Took me MONTHS to make up my 8 basic tones and get them to be at the right (same) volume when switching but I got it there. Tube amps are a thing of the past for me...SCREW marshall...pompous pricks!
@kevinmcguinness11136 ай бұрын
@awittypilot8961 I use an expression pedal into the back of the GA-FC (not the -EX version) for WAH too. I also plug a simple TAP switch into the other port on the back of the GA-FC. Through the ASSIGN tab on the BOSS Tone Studio, I have programmed the configuration such that when I togglle the TAP switch, it switches the pedal action between VOLUME and PEDAL FX (whatever you have programmed the pedal FX to be in the PEDAL FX tab). It's not perfect, but it works and I've got used to it now. There are a couple of negatives with this configuration : 1) No LED indicator on the TAP switch to indicate which setting the pedal is on - either VOLUME or PEDAL FX, you need to remember. 2) when switching from PEDAL FX back to VOLUME, you need to remember to set the pedal to maximum (toe down) position, otherwise the volume will be affected. Hope this helps 🤘.

@Tiago_0077 ай бұрын
Unfortunately you can’t.
@andrewbecker37007 ай бұрын
@@Tiago_007 I've always wondered why there's not just a small LCD screen somewhere on the control panel for the Tone Studio? Or even a small tablet included for Bluetooth connectivity? Having to use the little USB to copier adapter wire, is bullshit. Plus I needed another adapter to get to my specific tablet's and phone's input style.They don't even include the damn connector wire, you gotta go buy it. Same with the GAFC footswitch. The stuff should all be included, even if the price was slightly increased. As great as they are. I have 2 mkii 212's. There's always room for improvements. I'm currently contemplating a mix and match speaker swap with the two M65 Celestion Creambacks out of my cheapy Harley Benton G212plus cab. It's my opinion the factory Katana speakers in the 212 models are just Greenback copies, thus the 25 watts rms rating at 16ohms. Might swap out 1 stock Katana speaker for a Creamback in both my 212's. I'm curious to hear what a Greenback clone and Creamback sound like together in a Katana 212 cab. My guess, is it'll have substantially more character in the mids. And just a broader overall EQ range. Greenbacks on their own can be brittle and a little raspy at times. But it's my belief the two distinct characters each speaker inherently has, will combine to create a metal tone that's much more versatile. Maybe a little more crunchy and classic rock voiced. Not so bitting and modern.

Sounds great. I am curious in that Kramer. What model is it, looks heavily modded ? ❤
@coltonmuri36727 ай бұрын
It's a Kramer Pacer. The main mod is the Sustainiac pickup in the neck. Its a pretty complicated system with multiple circuit boards, 2 additional switches, and replaces the pickup switch with a digital one so that it goes to the bridge pickup when using the sustainer (it only works right when the pickup is far away from the sustainer driver). The other visible mod is an EVH d-Tuna to quickly swap between standard and drop tuning. Those only work if you block the Floyd Rose tremolo to be dive bomb only. There's a few devices that solve that. Dagan uses the simplest and cheapest one that is just a screw that presses against the back side of the tremolo block

Great time to be a guitarist , indeed the 50 should have an fx loop , but , the older series Mk1 / 2 100 should be a steal on second hand markets now ... I’ve used my mk1 live since they came out , still great , still reliable , just as a pedal platform and it has the magic fx loop ( although no one moans when some boutique maker brings out a 13k super valve amp ??) . It’s not a beginner amp , not at that price , in the end it’s just a product , loads of choice out there . Loads of built in fx , enough for most players .

PUSHED pre-amp is a meh, can easily be replicated on the CLEAN channel, or using one of the SNEAKY AMP profiles. Stacked ODs would be nice, also the ability to cycle through GREEN-RED-YELLOW effects on the GA-FC. Or revamp the clunky GA-FC completely to also include a couple of expression pedals. Yeah, it would cost a bit more, but worth it IMO and no need for the additional cost of expression pedals and activation switches on external umbilical cables.
