These are the Pedals that inspired me to make this Series. The BOSS Delay Pedals deserve much more attention these day´s in my opinion. Don´t miss the sound samples! Thanks for watching!

I love your videos about Boss pedal mods. I'm about to buy a PH-2. Do you know any mods or improvements to this pedal?
@mickrose14313 жыл бұрын
great channel, exciting topics, much success! can I rely on values of 22nF to 100nF? A recommended Keeley-mod is mentioning 0.22uF and 0.47uF for an on/off/on-switch...?! 🎸💨🎶

Glad you like it Mick! Yes you can go higher with your filtering up to 470nF but I wouldn´t recommend this. Going higher than the 100nF will shorten the feedback significantly. The Echo will be really dark and the difference from the first repeat to the following can get a little drastic. It will sound more like the analog version as it goes deeper and deeper in its revereration.

thanks, really sounds like a warm tape echo though being a digital delay. Will try to iterate my preferences. Do you have any experiences using "high-cut mod" soldering a cap to level-pot?

The scale under the delay time pot is genius! Where do I find one?

It´s too long ago - I don´t know myself but I think I found this in a local electronic store 20Years in the past. There was once a so called electronicsroad in the town near by with one e-shop next to each other...

Do you have any modifications for the Boss CE-5? The analog version.
@MrJLobster5 жыл бұрын
Hallo Martin, if you have the analog Version of the CE-5 Chorus then you be the lucky one! It is very similar to the CE-2 (or CE-3) in sound and uses the same rare MN 3007 BBD Chip. The mod is easy: Find R56 (10k). Desolder the one leg of it that is NOT attached to Q5 (2sc3378GR). Solder a wire to the leg of R56. Find C41(1uF). Desolder the positive leg of the capacitor. Solder the wire to the positive leg of the cap. Done. Now you got an CE-2. Of course NO FUNKTION OF E.Level and High/Low filters anymore - just DEPTH and RATE. Good Luck!

@@MrJLobster Very interesting! I'll keep it in mind. I read in the forums about C22: from 5pF to 22pF, for more depth. Here is a small demo of the CE-5. Sounds nice, but I would like it to sound deeper. Regards! kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5C6pGRrppV4gqc

@@Martin_Tudela_OrsiCE-5: If anything I would get rid of C22 (5p). The right 47p (C21) already exists in the clock circuit. The CE-2 workes with 12V ACA at 10.8 Veff. This is barely enough. For a MN3007 BBD a minimum operating voltage of -11V is recomended. (9V or Battery IS to low) The CE-2 sounds lush and deep with more voltage - I don´t dasychain it.
@Martin_Tudela_Orsi5 жыл бұрын
@@MrJLobster I understand the voltage point. But what about the people who convert the CE-2 to 9v for their own convenience? The CE-5 already comes from stock to work with 9v, it could be converted to ACA style. The BBD allows it as you explain. What is not clear to me is that it does C22. Why do you suggest removing it instead of increasing the value?
@MrJLobster5 жыл бұрын
@@Martin_Tudela_Orsi Decreasing the capacitor increases the frequency ozillation and therefore it creates a longer delay in the BBD which is desirable in a chorus. Unfortunately C22 adds capacitance and decreases the delay a bit. It´s may be useful for distorted sounds. Thats how I remember it. Should ask my Oszilloscope to be shure ´cause I haven´t done that a while… I hope it helps Martin

Q: if you are not familiar with modding and would like to go for these mods, where do you start? Is there a “how to” forum or do you just go for it?
@MrJLobster5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments! I would just go for it! The Boss Delay Pedals are not the easiest to begin with but unless you be careful to not touch the chip and watch out to not break any wires it should be possible to be sucessful. The Analog Mod is very very useful, you will like it!

@@MrJLobster is there a general thing to get low end on a lot of vintage ones like TW-1 ,CE-3? I guess caps values is where its at?
@MrJLobster5 жыл бұрын
@@yurav5109 welcome! No not in general. It depends mostly on the design of the pedal the buffering that was choosen and the Sound that was in mind. Especially the older ACA powered pedals had a tad more lows -if ACA POWERED -what seems to be ignored in the todays pedal world. Some are designed to cut the lowest bass that typical conflicts with the effect frequencies. It also depends for which place in the effects chain the pedal was primarily intended. And the vintage pedals where NOT intended for lots and lots of pedals in chains because there simply where not a lot pedals out there.
