The Boston Celtics Are Great...But Vulnerable

The Boston Celtics currently have the best record in the NBA at 24-6 and were red hot going into their game against the Detroit Pistons who were on a 27 game losing streak so it seemed like the Celtics would coast to an easy win. Fast forward to the second quarter and the Celtics were down by 21. Boston would survive an overtime, but it highlighted some of the flaws this team has. So far the Celtics have looked great with their additions of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, but we still aren't confident this team can win a championship.

My guess is they have the best record in the league and were widely expected to blow the Pistons out before halftime but instead were in the business end of a blowout until they battled back to tie up the score at the end of the 3rd quarter. Vulnerable when they are not complete. Almost invulnerable when they are whole. It takes really abnormal circumstances for them to lose when they are complete. I watched the tape on their 6 loses, all except the loss to Indiana fit this and all 6 losses were winnable games decided at the end game. Their biggest loss was to Orlando but they were without Holiday and 3 starters were injured in the game with Porzingis only playing till the start of the 3rd quarter with Boston up 8.

They actually don't have a counter for Milwaukee. They won by 3 in November and Giannis missed a lot of open layups. Since then the Bucks have taken their game up another level. I don't think there's a team in the league that can beat Milwaukee in a 7 game series this year. Especially if they keep improving as Dame gets more comfortable with the team. It's just too hard to guard them. You have to double Dame past half court and if you do then he's going to find Giannis driving to the basket and if they collapse the paint to stop him then he kicks it out to Middleton, Beasley, Dame, whoever. Teams have struggled to defend the Bucks this year. That's why they have the best offense in the league right now. 122.0 offensive rating.

As a Celtics fan, this team is a mystery. Games you'd expect them to win, they'll almost find a way to lose. Games you'd expect them to lose, they somehow find a way to win or make it close. While the bench isn't that deep, it isn't the worst bench ever. It is true that they don't score that many points, but they don't shoot that much. 30th in FGA while 7th in FG%. They also are good at rebounding and have low turnovers. There typically is at least 2 of the starters/horford out there with the bench unit. Queta is basically Timelord lite, Brisset has calmed down a bit and is shooting better, Banton has length and is a good defender, Lamar Stevens can be used as a small ball 5 and hold his own, Svi/Hauser/Pritchard never feel like they are going to miss

They have more ways to beat teams now late game than before, and the Heat can run zone against the Celtics now because they have Porzingis who is great against Zone Defense.

Me personally no As much as people say they are contenders for the title i don’t think i can’t consider them real contenders because they have had multiple runs since tatum got there and every year they come so close but fail 2022 finals run and last year playoffs were a proof that as good as they are they have major holes and yeah jrue holiday replacing marcus smart like i still think they can make the conference finals or something but me personally that’s all they do because ever since lebron left the east it’s been heat vs celtics and aside from two years the heat literally has boston number ECF Heat vs Celtics Heat wins 2-1 over celtics 2020 and 2023

I think the reason there is no trust on the Celtics is that they don't have a specific style or weapon they can resort to when the going gets tough. The Nuggets, if things get hard, go to Jokic-Murray two man game or dump it to Gordon for a dunk. The Warriors, shit gets hard, find Steph for a 3. The Twolves, give it to Ant and have drive to the rim. Sixers, get Embiid on the post. When the Celtics are in a tough spot, and can't buy a bucket, what do they do? .................. I dunno. This past game they went to Porzingis and that might be their most consistent option. There is nothing specific to fear. My 2 cents.

Celtics basketball is most brainless brand of basketball... 5 out, constantly shooting contested jumpers, they shoot at least 40 3s every game and they have no inside presence... in the playoffs when the 3s will have pressure on them they'll lose... cause if they win then the NBA will become completely unwatchable... every team will copy that brainless bullshit basketball and every team will be playing 5 out and chucking 50+ 3s per game while the NBA will keep refusing to let anyone play defense at all... I mean seriously... what is the Celtics plan? They have no pick n roll, no off ball movement... they just drive and kick for 3s or shoot contested jump shots with Brown and Tatum... it's the definition of BAD BASKETBALL that only works due to the NBA refusing to allow anyone to really play defense without sending the opponent to the free throw line 20 times... seriously... nowadays every star shoots 30% more free throws than Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant... the NBA is telling us that guarding fucking Jalen Brown that can't dribble the fucking ball is harder than guarding prime MJ...
