In 1984 a massive shipment abroad the Gloucester fishing vessel Valhalla unloaded it's cargo onto an Irish fishing vessel Marita Ann. The Irish Navy intercepted this vessel on it's way back to port. When the Valhalla's engineer John McIntyre gets arrested he opens up an investigation that unravels the Boston Irish mobs intimate relationship with the IRA. #boston #mafia #irish #ira #uk #ireland #gangsters

@@jasontrimmins8264 One of the early videos of yours was on Whitey Bulger. As I said then, I learned more from your video than the two books I’d read and all other docs I’d seen. You were the first to observe that Bulger was not the all-powerful mobster the press had made him out to be. I knew then that you were onto something.

Fantastic video Jason and spot on research. I drove a taxi off and on (mostly on) from the mid 70's til the late 90's when like you say the waterfront was "wide open". Fun Fact, i must have picked up John McIntyre a dozen times from The House of Mitch and took him to southie completely shit faced having missed the last train. He would always run his mouth in a drunken stupor about something "big" going down and "i got to see "The big man" and drop him off on Broadway or west Broadway (pre big dig) and really never thought much of it until many years later when they found his remains under 93 after Whitie tourtured and shot him and i recognized his picture. Bobby Anderson was indeed a great guy and took cabs from time to time when he was in and didn't feel like driving home . Hard to forget those times but you did a great job telling the story! Take care Jason, thanks

I didn't know that the IRA guy ratted out the Valhalla in all the documentaries on TV they say it was the guy who got the dui who tipped them off so great job I love getting the real story n not the BS. The IRA fought along with IBH (Irish Brotherhood) from 1915-1920. Provisional IRA emerged in December 1969, thats what you were talking about however its important to separate the three the IRA, Provisional IRA and The Real IRA 3 groups with diffrent approaches . Also IDK who told you Provos didnt use the term "The Troubles" whoever did is full of shit I lived in Belfast from 1974 to 1983 and I knew many members all used the term Troubles

Dude.. The Irish Republic Brotherhood the IRB for short came around in 1914 from The Irish Volunteer force which was made in response to Northern Irelands Protestant group The Ulster Volunteer Force which they were made in response to Home Rule in Ireland. But some of these comments are flat out wrong The IRB was a group from The IVF who did not want to participate in world war 1 on behalf of the british empire. The IRB through michael collins became the IRA the Original IRA I will add as the provisional IRA had similar interests but were different groups and due to their violent tactis the Original IRA were not fans of The Provisional IRA. Whitey dealt with the Provisionals

Awesome video. Cool story for ya. Sammy the Bull talks about when him and John Gotti were in prison in NY they were locked up wit an IRA guy named Joe Doggity( I butchered the spelling) During a Q&A segment I asked Sammy about him. He said Joe shoot and killed 2 either soldiers or special branch agents in Ireland. One of them happened to be Margaret Thatchers nephew so they were hunting this guy hard. He escaped to America. The Italian mafia, I don't know what family, got him a fake identity and a job as a bartender in the city at an Irish pub. Eventually the FBI tracked him down. I thought that was crazy, I had no idea the mob was helping the IRA. Makes me wonder if the mob was also helping with guns and/or money? Also I wonder how and who started the process to get Joe his new identity?

That’s what I mean pre Mellanie’s law there was almost no punishment for drunk driving. I can’t understand why McIntyre did that

Irish America has always helped the struggle, the IRA had better arms suited for urban guerilla warfare thanks to Armalite arms 👍 and Irish American support!

I was born and raised in RI. Stuff that you and I think is just "business as usual" is fascinating to the rest of the country. I live in Las Vegas now all those mob guys were from back east. I can understand Howie Carr talking that way Whitie et al wanted him dead for years for reporting on them. I know the Kennedys also supported the IRA on the down low. That captain may have gotten off the hook because the Kennedys made a phone call to law enforcement.

He didn’t really get off the hook 4 years in federal prison isn’t a cake wall especially for someone who’s never done time. The northeast really is much different than the rest of the country I agree.
