Surprise! (jk jk jk..... or am I.......) 7:19 - lmfao dude Barrel 17-202 (cherry) is aged 7.5 years and 127.76 proof. Barrel 412 (brownie) is aged 8.5 years and 128.40 proof. Also, for anyone wondering why we picked both barrels (other than us really enjoying them) we found they blended very well together! Love you two! So glad you got to try them! The tater stickers are on their way... I promise!!!!!!!!!! 12:01 - you know it got real when the glasses came out.

As barrels age, the wood shrinks and they naturally fall apart since they're only held together by pressure and friction. You need to specially treat them to prevent it from happening.

I've just had one of their expressions, the entry-level original, and there was this background funk that I couldn't get past. Reminded me of green tomatoes or like tomato stems/leaves when damaged. Makes me wonder if what i was getting matches the dank notes you mentioned. I'll eventually try their other expressions since I hear great things. Especially the finished products. Glad to see more reviews of Westward either way!

FWIW, every one of the three Westward bottles I've tried has that danky note in the finish. I have friends who love it for that taste, but it's the reason that I tend to not like Westward as much as I like other ASMWs (Westland, Copperworks, Cedar Ridge, etc.). I don't know Westward's process, but I wonder if their equipment for mashing is also used to make beer and has residual hop residue.

Hmm interesting. I didn't get that sort of "funk" with their normal Stout Cask or Port Cask single malts, so perhaps it's certain barrels/batches 🤷🏼‍♂️ But I can definitely see how it's one of those "not for everyone" type of flavors.

I know, although it is delicious stuff they are putting out, it's difficult to spend that much. One that I have really been enjoying lately and can recommend is Cedar Ridge "The Quintessential" Single Malt. Consistently tasty and lighter on the wallet around $60 👍🏻

I am surprised . I have tried 4 of their ASM’s and loved every one! One of my favorite distilleries. Hits my pallet perfectly and clearly not yours! Thats completely OK though…
