Vegita Buu they can be used for a variety of things. Pet food is one. But mostly fertilizer for lawns and gardens. I take my fish to someone who grinds them up and uses it in their garden.

I think the thrill for these guys is the same as us who love the thrill of that fish hitting. I must say also that if they don't eat maybe since your in Michigan donate to homeless shelters, there's lots of homeless places that take in the offer of free fish, or deer meat an such. For those that don't know also these fish are a nuisance fish which can destroy waterways and natural resources needed for the other game that don't multiply and breed as gas as these things do. There are some places were they want this done to control the spread of the fishes over breeding. Thumbs up on this one.

Most states only require you to have a fishing license, if your going after gator gar you might need a permit. The permits are usually free, you just need to get one.

Bowfishing carp is not a bad thing, Carp are an invasive species that does much more harm than good. Invasive species have no natural predator causing them to overpopulate very quickly. If you think killing animals for sport is wrong; try to look at it this way. People bowfishing are acting as a predator and are helping reduce the population much like the natural predator would do where these fish come from. I'm currently a ecologist studying at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Connor Pettigrew Actually carp are filter feeders which eat plankton. The various plankton species are eaten by young native fish and minnows which are food for bigger fish. Nothing eats adult carp so they are just sucking up the food that native species could be using.

Carp are very aggressive eaters and can easily starve fish that are supposed to be in the water body. More often than not where bow fishing is allowed it is because the fish are strictly land and kill like gobies here in southern ontario.

+Jon Tosh from the looks of your gear on your profile pic I would guess that you are in Europe somewhere (please forgive me if that assumption is wrong). There very little of that kind of gear to be found here. Please understand that in this country the carp population is out of control and damages fisheries and harms native species. Where I live it is relatively common to poison entire lakes that may cover 200-300 acres just to eliminate the overpopulation of carp. The lakes are then restocked with gamefish. I understand that this method of harvest may seem wasteful and boorish to you but it is far better than the alternative of killing an entire lake just to be rid of the invasive species. As a side note, there are many, many locations here in the states that would offer you an amazing opportunity to have the carping day of your life. I do not have the knowledge of how to set a swim or the specialized gear that you have access to over there but i have had 50+ fish days here with the majority of fish running to 10 pounds or more.

They, much like the rabbits in Australia, did not evolve as part of this ecosystem and as such cause significant damage. While their behavior doesn't damage themselves it does damage native species and destroy the water quality that other species depend on. As for the sport provided in fishing for them, that is a matter that is strictly personal preference.

This is the common carp from Europe, not the asian carp. The common carp can peacefully co-exist with other species. I do not believe that they eat all the food and other species die because of that. Btw, the brown trout is also not native. I am from Europe too, living in Canada. And unless you are a native American, you and me are invasive species as well. I love fishing for carp and releasing them unharmed. They are great fighters and a lot of fun to fish. But other than in Europe, this is not very popular here. I do not think I can change the way you and many others are thinking about those fish and killing them. It just makes me very sad when animals get slaughtered like that, just for fun.

+Thomas Lotz DNR regulation in each state is different. Like in my state if you catch a carp, whether if it is by hook or bow. You can't release it back into the water/waters. So basically you have to keep the fish or kill it. If the DNR catch you releasing it back into the water, you will get a ticket and be fined $500 and fishing licences revoked for the year.

Yeah... grass carp are not listed in Florida as endangered. Also, buffalo carp is another name for buffalo fish, but you are correct in stating that they are not actually carp. They are bottom feeders and look similar to carp, thus the name and any confusion that comes with it. They taste fuckin' amazing btw. :)
