What do you think of the new Blackmagic box camera? Did they deliver on what we were all asking for? Are you gonna buy one? I have a lot of thoughts on the PYXIS 6k.

What's so hard buying a Tiffen filter for a few hundred bucks? People complain oh no internal N.D 😂 I always have N.D's for my matte Box configuration for different cameras.

@@VIPAH Why would I buy more NDs when I have internal? I've used variable NDs, Linear NDs, and I still choose internal because those extra minutes saved on set not only allows you to work faster, but also shows the client that you are efficient and will recommend you to other clients. Why would I stop the shoot, grab my ND filter, screw it on, then start the shoot again when I can just press a button and get a perfectly exposed image?

I think that fixed screen on the side is so boneheaded. If it was on the top like the Komodo, you could at least shoot with it in a pinch.

Yeah. Try to shoot a little higher than your chin on a tripod or tilt it with an upper view monitor and. At least sideways you have a lot more flexibility. Of course, nothing close to an external monitor that you move to whatever angle you want. I think the side monitor is for controling the camera only and doubles as real monitor when you dont have or dont want to attatch one.

For the last couple of years, they'd always come with something either new and inexpensive, or at least a true improvement of the latest release. But this one has neither of the two. No ND, the rubber cover, the fact that it released way too late and etc. It woudl've been okay if they had kept the ND and added an innovative feature, but they didn't.

Minor mistake, it doesn't have the same censor as the "pocket cinema camera 6K"... the pocket has the Super35. I think you mean "Cinema Camera 6K" which is the newer FF camera. Stupid naming convention on Blackmagic's part. Very confusing.

This does not have the same sensor of the BMPCC 6K, it's from the BMCC 6K, no pocket

That side screen is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen on a cinema camera. I’m glitching out thinking about how horrendous it would be to use during any type of production. And no NDs? I’ll stop ya right there BM lol what a joke

The side screen is not for monitoring but for settings and an assistent on set. And it's much better ans bigger than lets say the screen on the komodo. Why do you think BMD designed a specific external monitor for the Pyxis?

If the rolling shutter is as bad as it was for this sensor - it is no for me Edit: No built in nds is a joke - they did fit them in a smaller pocket camera but now they increased the size and downgraded the camera Fixed screen on the side is much much worse than the screen in komodo. They could have reused the hinge design from ursa. I would prefer micro vlock mount for the batteries The 13 stops dynamic range should be upgraded I am also dissapointed that it lacks interchangable mounts. The only solution I see is going with L mount and buying adapters (pl adapter) It is quite big for a box camera One Sdi out port is really bad... if it dies you only have the side screen and the camera is useless... No slowmotion in the open gate mode (only 36fps)

All really good points! I don't know what the rolling shutter is like, but if the read out speeds of the sensor are better, it's possible it's not as bad. The engineers said they didn't add a hinge to the monitor to keep the size down....lol! 13 stops dynamic range isn't too bad though if you expose it well with BRAW. I agree about the interchangeable mounts. I told them it seemed like going L-mount and getting adapters was the best option and they said they haven't tested 3rd part compatibility, but it should work in theory. It's Definitely bigger than I thought. Much larger than the Komodo. It's not SDI out only actually. It uses USB-C Display port out for the EVF, which can also be used for a monitor. Just no direct HDMI out, which was a weird move, but again, to save on size.
