This is my analysis: The light in the kid's eyes is happiness. The flat-headed guys have became miserable because of their envy. They get mad at other's happiness, and they celebrate other's failures. That's why they can't stand the kid's joyful singing. They have no happiness (hence no light in their eyes) and they can't stand others being happy. See that guy at 6:05 get scared as he sees the kid has grown taller and also developed legs? That's an envious person's ego feeling threatened. So the whole envious squad shouts to draw the machine's attention, because they know what will happen when that machine comes down. They want to bring down the young dude to make him unhappy like themselves. That's why they all laugh at him getting hammered down. You know what's the worst part about this? They know how it works because they've been there before. They were all joyful once, and got smacked because of other's envy too. And still they can't even let others be happy. I think that's how envious people work in the real world too.

Did anyone notice, that when he was a child, he was at front of the box. When he became middle aged, he was in middle. Also, he suffered immense pain when he was crushed, and instead of succumbing to the pain and the peer pressure, he utilized his pain to overcome the situation he was in and free himself. That's a beautiful depiction of society. Absolutely loved it.

I love how everyone understands something different. To me it's like a metaphor of giftedness. He's an active child, a trouble maker trying to create beauty and happiness but misunderstood. He refuses to fit in so much that society brings him down psychologically (The machine hitting his head). But his will is so strong he realizes something is wrong with the box he lives in. He manages to escape, doing something the others thought was impossible. They all gape at him, realizing he might have been a failure by their standards, but he achieved something no one else ever did. Edit: I've come to learn that gifted children are way better treated in the US than in my country; in Spain there are no advanced classes, an abnormal IQ is medicated and treated like a disease, and 2 of every 3 gifted kids drop out before finishing highschool and most suffer from bullying and depression at some point. We have a society that is very much focused on standing out as little as possible. Just some context.
@disruptivetimes87384 жыл бұрын
Dude, everyone talks about the same thing, just using different words, just like you. The eon old idea of being trapped into a system of control that works outside your sphere of influence, i.e. gods, demons, spirits, "the system", society, you name it. Funny how everyone seems to miss that. Its an artistic depiction of some very old esoteric core teachings together with warnings of dangers and consequences for those following a certain path, like the one you described. Its an archetype that has its roots outside the knowable and manifests itself within the world in countless forms. Some of them can be read in the comments here, but most of them are very basic, barely touching the surface of what this archetype really points to, because going down that road gets very scary very fast.

Notice who the main character in this short film is! All the comments below focus on the kid that got out, but the main character _isn't_ him; it's the one in the middle of the 7x7 box, the one who is directly under the light, the one the film starts with. Most of the film is a flashback explaining why he was having "nightmares" in the beginning. The main message _isn't_ about how society tried and failed to suppress the individuality of the kid that got out--that's a old cliché. Rather, it's about how the main character, who represents most of us in society, was ultimately influenced by that kid despite being initially annoyed at him. In a way, the kid that got out was luckier than the others both in terms of disposition and circumstance--like how everyone laughing at him provoked him to remember his identity before the hole closed--but the film suggests that there is _hope_ for the others in that they might eventually be inspired to break free as well. The post-credits scene then shows that it's not just our main character, but others in the box as well who have been influenced. One might even infer that his simple-mindedness (he's the one who never knows when to stop) gives him fewer barriers towards achieving self-actualization.

They tried to make him like them and their view of life and to fit into their beliefs, they tried to stop him expressing himself and what made him unique so as to make him the same as them. I like how the one old dude was still laughing but when the other guy knocked him in the stomach he looked and stared in awe like everyone else as if he knew what happened. Reminds me of today’s social media; people won’t even be there but will automatically think they know everything and will react in the same way as those around them, not even knowing why they’re doing it.

You can ask so many questions, but not having the answers and letting everyone use their imagination is better than knowing!! Love it. I feel like the little guy singing now. I'm 71yrs old and anytime I am with a bunch of old farts my age, I feel just like him. If they want to act like those silent "stumps" ,fine, but I'm going to beat my belly and sing a silly song, like Pink Floyd's Run Rabbit Run song. Ooh,yay,yee,yay, wah!!!

This story "The Box" is so well-written that shows the true reality of the world and how people are contaminated with envious nature. They cannot tolerate the other's positive well beings that they think they can not achieve. They practice every possible ways to drag other down into their level. Despite all the scrutiny and difficulties, one gets the success if he is determined and unaffected by the other's opinions.

@lumiyogiwitch20813 жыл бұрын
This has happened to me. Once I met a girl, she went to my house, right from the start I realized she was free, she could express her emotions freely, she was so spontaneous and kind! She was full of joy, she sang a song when my sister asked her to because she saw her in a small concert and it was beautiful. She was smart and so involved in the moment... I thought she was amazing... but there were a lot of mixed feelings and there was a moment I had to get out of the room we were in, and be alone. I was jealous of her. She was almost all I wanted to be, without any fear, she was free. I learned to repress myself, to be super self conscious and control every movement of my body and voice so that no one can judge me. Now I am in that process of getting out of the box and reaching the light. Just like in this short most of us are sleeping most of the time, and just like the way their head is pressed down we are limited and not functioning in our natural capacity. But no one will come from up there to pick you up. It's your decision! You have to rise, once you've realized you had enough and made your decision to get out of the dream.

For some reason, this story reminds me a lot about generational trauma. Red eyes grew up in a world full of people who despised him and his individuality. And when he gets beat down, they basically tell him "Tough Luck, kid," and laugh at him. When red eyes escapes, they're all dumbfounded at the idea that you can escape in the first place. It echoes the principal that your history is not what defines you. At least, that was one interpretation.
