Egypt is celebrating the centenary year of the discovery of King Tutankhamun's burial chamber.
When the archaeological dig began on 4 November 1922 it led to the discovery of the famous tomb, which is over 3,000 years old.
The tomb has helped archaeologists who study ancient objects, materials and buildings, understand more about Ancient Egypt and it has also become a famous symbol for Egypt's identity and influence around the world.
A 12-year-old local boy is said to have played a crucial role in the excavations, but who was he?

Despite working so hard...Carter himself was not honored by the British Government.... However, he did receive a medal from the king of Egypt and an honorary degree from Yale university.....Carter's passion and dedication is what led to the discovery of the tombs....he had gained so much experience that the Egyptian government agreed to allow him to continue his excavation which took a total of 10 years to fully find all the items of the tomb before moving to the Egyptian museum.

@@hassyg4083 I do love racist bigots like you who insist on using Western moral frameworks and philosophies, without irony or even cognisance, and use them to claim the West is inferior. It's a great story and I believe that it happened, but this doesn't mean that Howard Carter was an evil "colonialist" falsely claiming the discovery for himself. Thank God for Carter's extreme persistence, hard work, and total commitment, combined with Lord Carnarvon's financial backing, that enabled the discovery of King Tut's tomb. It might still be buried today otherwise. The people of Egypt and the entire world should just be grateful for the discovery of the tomb, which is one of the most priceless treasures of the entire human race.

Nobody mentions the fact the Egyptian gov thought there was no chance there was an undiscovered tomb so signed the entire rights to keep everything they found to Carnarvon, in exchange for spending ~£1 million looking. When they hit jackpot the Egyptian gov backtracked and stabbed them in the back and took nearly everything. Carnarvon didn't complain, despite the double cross.

If you're going to count 'finding a hole' as 'discovering a tomb', then really it was the donkey that discovered it. If Carter's expedition wasn't there, the kid on the donkey wouldn't have been there. It Carter wasn't there when one day someone's donkey did find the hole, the locals would have ransacked the tomb and the whole lot would have been lost, just like so many other ancient tombs in Egypt and elsewhere.
