I thought it was going to be primarily comedic, just on the verge of silly. I had no idea about how dramatic and action packed it would be in addition to its comedic elements. It was really well balanced and I binged it over a couple days. I’m really looking forward to where the remaining characters are taken.

Compared to the other references that tried to desecrate the superhero figure without really affecting him, The boys stands out from the other fictions of the same genre (Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Planetary, Kick-Ass, Super, One Punch Man, Umbrella Academy). With its original concept, this adaptation immediately captures the viewer with a solid and rich scenario. What’s more, this series kill the myth of the blameless superhero with finesse and intelligence. In a contemporary alternative world dominated by appearances and the race for ratings, superheroes have nothing of virtuous models but rather personalities as corrupt as ultra-popular, pretentious and only concerned about their image with the public. Here they become media props, controllers of the masses, spokespeople for an America that has been corrupted from within by media vice and religious fundamentalism. Irreverent and joyfully trash, crossed by sequences as funny as scary, The Boys marks with its deliciously acerbic side and its uninhibited violence. Karl Urban and the obscene charisma of Anthony Starr (icy in his role as frustrated and machiavellian superman) clearly dominate the game. The cast is very relevant and was able to live up to the bold ambition of the series which skillfully juggles with a hilarious dark humour!

I would like to recommend you a film called Deux hommes dans la ville (I don´t know the name in English, but it could be translated as "Two men in a city"). It´s an old film with Alain Delon, but since you, guys, have mentioned many times on this chanel that you like films with a good plot and character development, I think you might like it. It starts kinda slow, but once the drama starts, it keeps on escalating and the ending will leave you speechless (at least that´s what it did to me).

Oh how much I love this show 😍 Heroes sort of started the superhero antihero trend in TV, the ‘normal’ person with super abilities, and raised the excellent point of why should superhuman characters fit into two archetypes-villains or heroes. From a literary point of view, those archetypes are really two-dimensional. Heroes and The Boys (and I guess Watchmen, which I haven’t seen yet, but I’ll watch purely because NIN did the end credits) explores the ‘what if’ of giving too much power to the wrong person. It couldn’t be more relevant at this time! There are soooo many people in this world now who have an enormous amount of power and influence and there’s really nothing remarkable about them, not particularly intelligent or morally superior. And yet, they have been placed in a position to significantly alter the course of mankind. The Boys shows, in a darkly comedic way, the truth of assholes in power and what can happen when careless people make bad decisions.
