Well they can always keep it going because the characters and backstory is so rich. They can create an entire universe like Marvel and because they can go so dark the show can be like the adult version of Marvel. There are so many DC and Marvel characters they can mock like Iron Man Thor Dr Strange and so on. Let's put it this way. Walking Dead just killing the same zombies over and over again lasted for 11 seasons and it never adds anything new. So easily they can expand on the mythology and universe to many seasons.
