As a bus driver, you'd be very surprised at how often buses don't catch fire But when they do, they do go up really really quickly, mainly due to the fibre glass panels Google H28 and N207 fires so far this year

Why don't you try the Mercedes-Benz CapaCityL bendy bus which is 21M long. It's two rear axels turn with the front wheels, it has automatic snow and Ice loss of grip preventions and correction and rear cabin swing correction. It can also get up the hills with upto 4cm of snow and 1cm of ice. It is the EU, Finlands, Swedens and Norway bus of 2022. It's saved life's.

Apart from Citaros. We've had three in the last ten years. 2 smokers and an engine bay rebuild. Tech dept said it was something to do with a failed fuel feed. Apparently, Mercedes issued a fix, or so I'm told. On a side note Streetdeck is really smooth drive.

If you take some time to check out the insurers own data. EV's are far less likely to catch fire than an ICE car, even in an accident. Of course the old Zafira's catching fire all over the place was ok?

@@pauld7827 That seems hard to explain given instances of such sharp rises in EV premiums and insurers not taking on EVs? An ICE vehicle needs an ignition source to catch fire even when damaged. A damaged EV battery doesn't need anything else and even if it gets put out is considered a risk for another 2 weeks or so then there is toxic fumes and chemicals that come off them if they do go up. There are far fewer EVs around than ICE currently and it's early days for them. In my opinion there isn't enough being done on the safety side with EVs. I've only ever had first hand experience of one EV involved in an accident and guess what happened? I won't consider one until they iron out the different safety aspects for EVs as even if they actually are less of a fire risk than ICE they are far more dangerous if they do go up IMO.

Could be a hybrid Geoff. We got a brand new Ford galaxy MHEV back in February. In August we got a letter from Ford saying a potentially dangerous fault was known with them. Warned that if we hear a "metal clanging" like sound from engine bay of car, immediately stop and vacate the vehicle to a safe distance and don't return. Their plan was a "software fix", but it now sounds like it might be a part replacement in the last quarter. Sounds to me that it's something to do with electric motor and it's gearbox connection to engine.

Just had my renewal car insurance quote for my Volvo, the quote was 55% higher than last year (nothing has change, no claims etc). Several years ago I was with More Than and thought I’d get a quote from them to find out they have stopped doing Car Insurance. They were for decades the Motability insurers but from September that changed to Direct Line. Something very bad is happening behind the scene to car insurance…..it’s not just inflation or claim costs, is it another way to get everyone off the roads, fewer insurers who than will have a monopoly and then will they completely price the honest people off the roads.

A huge fire has broken out in the car park of Luton Airport late on Tue evening. Maybe this was caused or made worse by an EV? An eye witness said “The speed in which the fire took hold was incredible.”

The battery sits under the front passenger seat which is exactly where the fire can be seen in the video, as shown in a newer video on Geoff Buys Cars. A diesel fire produces black smoke. No diesel was burning in the video - no smoke. Just a very ferocious fire where the battery is located. There is massive pressure to downplay EV fires.

I would look more closely at the macmaster, he seems rather uninformed. A Porsche Panamera has devalued by similar amount, basically people want a 9-11 or an SUV, not an Audi with a Porsche badge. He also has only phoned for a quote, I had the same problem, just went to a comparison site and it only went up by inflation!

A lot of these newer buses do have air-conditioning units at the rear of the bus between the top and bottom deck which have many electrical fans. I don't know what make of bus this was but it might be worth finding out to see if it has that sort of set up at the rear of the bus as one of the motors in the fan units could have malfunctioned Also note the majority of these buses also have LCD screens highlighting the numbers of the bus.

They are VOLVO. VOLVO are also known as WRIGHT and VDL. Alexander Dennis are owned by BYD and they use air driven engines which do not set on fire. Chain driven buses like this one create static and kinetic problems. They are also made from the same type of material that caused the fire at GlenFill Tower.

These buses incorporate a hybrid system with regenerative braking to power all the electrics on the bus, so i assume a battery somewhere that could posdibly have overcharged, or an electrical fault.

With what you said - Hybrids can't have vents to let the heat escape. It builds up and fires start. If any form of Soot from incinerators enters the bus from the exhaust or side vents it will build up in the engine and catch fire. It takes about 98 mile radius from any incinerator to dump soot via wind direction and rainfall. If they loose power for no reason or get stuck in gear one then take them off the road. In Liverpool they use a 1995 DAF double decker and it's still in service today. It's clock has reached 1 million miles three times and reset and it keeps going. Its from the Halewood Depot. It's had 3 refits and 3 resprays too.
