The reason the Brady Bunch will always be popular is because they portrayed the kind of family we all want. Not that there was much realism, but for most of us who came from dysfunctional or broken families, the Brady family embodied everything you would want in your own family.

@Paul Weatherby - Back then, cigarettes/smoking wasn't a big deal. Actually, it was the Brady's reaction to it being bad was what was new. None of us understood why it was bad because everyone was doing it back then....like pot is today. Now if they had found a joint in Greg's jacket, they couldn't even have put it on the air. Big difference in times.

I recently re-watched all the episodes with my daughter, she is 11 and loved it just as much as I did when I was her age. There isn’t ANYTHING on TV for families and children today, it’s nice to go back to a simpler time. ♥️

jaquen1977 Thank you, but we should t together as a family every night for dinner, and watch movies and tv shows together as well as at the show, I simple meant there are no family programs on tv for an 11 years old to watch as we had as children. The Beady Bunch was a huge part of my life, as well as all the great family shows in the 80’s , there is NOTHING like that... it’s all social media which my daughter has limited access too. But I appreciate your comment ☺️

I agree with what the people on the show said about why the show is still loved so much. It brings us back to a time that was much simpler then it is now. Life was not so complicated back then and much more carefree. A time when people REALLY talked to each other face to face, now people talk to others through cellphones, computers, which is nice but not like it was then. It was much more personal. Life was much easier then. But, I am glad I grew up when I did. It was the most incredible decade to grow up in the 70's.

That's exactly right! My husband and I are in our 60s and 50s, respectively. We have all five seasons on DVD, too. We love it. And it's funny. My husband is a tough 'cowboy' type who did not watch The Brady Bunch when it ran the first time, as he was a little older and already staring his life. And he is the last person you would think would like 'The Brady Bunch'. But I got him watching it and when he goes to bed first, I can hear 'The Bradys' on the TV (which we only have as a monitor for a few select DVDs) in the bedroom. He truly enjoys it and so do I. Clean and funny and appealing.

I met Christopher Knight at the Morongo Casino back in 2015...I believe he was doing some kind of show there. I was an employee and made it a point to say hi to the man. I know this is going to sound strange/odd...but I felt overwhelmed by his humility, kindness, and genuine sense of politeness. It brought me back to when I watched the show as it was in it's first five years. The show was, for me at least, and oasis of respect and love that did not exist in our "family". The situation was actually pretty bad so the show was a portal to a life that I longed to be a part of. I remembered watching the show and wanting so bad to be treated like those kids were being treated...with love and respect. I don't think I made a good impression on Mr. Knight...I honestly felt overwhelmed and probably was really messing up what I wanted to say. The entire cast did an incredible job...and I'm sure that many others like myself, really appreciated the values that show manifested throughout it's five seasons. I'm just grateful I was able to meet him.

@Stephen - Don’t sell yourself short. I’m sure the impression you made was just fine. I also came from a dysfunctional and emotionally abusive household. Part of breaking that cycle and healing the emotional wounds is to stop telling yourself that you’re not good enough. Or that you didn’t do it right. So stop already. Your parents were lying to you. You’re fine and you’ve got things to say that are appreciated.

I grew up watching the Brady Bunch, The Waltons and Little House On The Prairie. Shows with families that respected each other. The parents were there for their kids, the kids were typical kids and respectful of their parents and cared about each other even when driving each other batty. They don't make family shows like this anymore and people look back at when times were simplier and maybe yeah there were problems but typical growing pains trying to find where you fit in with your family and friends. That's why shows like these and a few others have lasted. Just fyi, the Brady Bunch was my introduction to Davy Jones and tte Monkees. The Monkees have gotten me through bouts of depression and anxiety. They're my go to when I need a pick me up and its from watching the Brady Bunch I was given that joy. I miss those simpler days and going back for a visit now and then refreshes me. Rest in peace Florence, Robert and Ann. Thanks to all of you for great memories.

We had never heard of the word. Oh they were there but not around any of us who had dads because we didn't have the heavy gun restrictions that we have today and pervs knew they would get shot, beaten or just "come up missing". Thats the problem with government trying to control a society that they have never lived in or known, who grew up in protective bubbles and know nothing about the life of the "commoner".

It's good that you pursue your interests regardless of what others think. I know what you mean about feeling out of place. I agree with Susan Olsen. The Brady's did not have a stupid Dad, as do so many TV families today. They had two wonderful, intelligent parents who respected their children and each other, and they had siblings that respected each other and their parents. That is why the show is still popular to this day.

The bad thing about The Partridge Family was that it could have been done with only the 3 older kids. The younger 2 hardly ever got to speak and Chris Partridge actually was done by 2 different child actors. All 6 of the Brady Bunch kids are still with us.

Those of us who didn't have stable households and loving families marveled at how 8 people could do it. It was because they communicated or learned how to. Dad never went ballistic at the kids. Mom was always there and cared about their grades and intersibling rivalries, among others. Then you had their 2nd mom aka Alice who always had cookies at the ready and always made all that food. She cared deeply for them as well. So we saw that and felt how genuine it all was.

Charlie Patterson it seems like technology has both helped and harmed us. I remember an old friend once said while we're in a car driving on the freeway and saw an angry driver and said,can you imagine what it would be like if could hear what everyone is really thinking and saying in their head? And that's what exactly happened with social media!!! Another thing today that makes me laugh and realize that parents are almost always right. We kids would be at school all day with our friends,come home and would get a snack and then go to our rotary phone and call all our friends for a talk session. Never mind I just saw them only 15 minutes ago. My dad always told me that someday that d amned phone was gonna grow to my ear. Well years later, I would see the portable blue tooth phone people wear on their ears and was both dazzled and amazed..... I thought to myself in somewhat shock that my dad was right...,,,phones.....they really do grow to your ears.....😳
@charleypatterson9956
@charleypatterson9956 5 жыл бұрын
@Audrey Muller ... When my little brother and I were kids, we didn't have cell phones, of course, so our dad had to whistle really loud when it was time to come home after playing outside on our bikes. Playing outside!!! That's something the kids today just don't experience. They're either at a friend's house playing on their phone or in their room playing on their phone. I can't tell you how many times I've had to stop a conversation because the people in front of me just aren't paying any mind to what I'm saying because they're engrossed in whatever app they're focusing on. It's rude!! Now, I'll check my texts or my email for a minute...because unfortunately we live in a "I want to know NOW" day and age, but I'm not on my phone 24/7. I enjoy reading actual paperbacks and working real jigsaw puzzles. Occasionally I'll play a game of rummy with my sister...with real cards!!...but I'm afraid "real" things will be obliterated because digital things will completely take over.

You were in our homes every Friday night. You’re still so popular because when we look back, we get a distant kin relationship feel. You kids were like our cousins. We followed you to the variety shows and then we watched your movies as teenagers. Then as we started our families, we passed the Brady Bunch to our kids. They also watched it in syndication. Now we’re grandparents, and we’re still watching it! My dad was really strict on us as kids. He always monitored tv time. We weren’t suppose to watch the Brady Bunch back then because he felt “back then” the situation with their family set up was “out of touch” and non realistic. He allowed us to watch the Walton’s, and Little House on the Prairie but not the Brady Bunch. We snuck and watched it anyway. We even recorded episodes on cassette tapes to hear them later. Now that’s loyalty! We’re still loyal! When Carol, Mike, and Alice passed away, we felt like we lost a relative. Thank you for continuing to share your lives with all of us! #55yearoldBradyBunchfan4Life
