@1Rdby I found that the filming location was 5877 franklin ave, los angeles. It is currently Gelson's Hollywood, so it's still a grocery store! I couldn't find any previous info on the property other than the building was constructed in 1966.

Both, actually. Having worked alongside architects, I can tell you that job is not what most people think it is. Designing a building from the ground up is actually a rare occurrence. Most architects spend their entire careers doing nothing but renovation and expansion projects.
