Hi from Alness in the Highlands just across the water to the north of the Black Isle. Interesting video and nice to see places fairly local to me. My mum grew up in Brahan Estate where the Seer supposedly worked. I have a musical brother who wrote a piece of music called Coinneach Odhar about 12 years ago.

Hi Robbie! Ok, so: Thanks for this video. As usual, it is very well-researched and highly amusing. I have to keep stopping it to open up a new tab to research what you are talking about sometimes. Like, The Highland Clearances. Never knew about it until recently and never heard it called that. In America, we had the same problem. The conquerors crammed the Indians onto reservations which were, and are, poor in resources. Peoples who had not been farmers were forces into subsistence farming. It is widely told that this was true of ever tribe. That is not true, but that is a different portion of the story. The main point is that the Clearances are very similar in the round up, deportation, and forcing ppl into jobs they had no knowledge of.

Yes it happened in England too, with the Enclosures act. Rich people claimed land ordinary folk had travelled onand used for grazing since time began, and walled it in and called it theirs.

Hi Robbie, your video just came up in my feed (Yes, I subscribed and turned on notifications), it's a great video and story - I'm very much into Scottish legends and stories. I'm an Aussie with Scot heritage. One of my ancestors was known as Donald Ban A'bhocain (Donald of the Fair Spectre). He is relatively well known and was haunted by a malevolent spirit. He was a druid who converted to Christianity. Some have said that it was the spirit of a farmer who had died in battle and he wanted Donald to return a piece of farm machinery to his family, however, the records of how it haunted him and threw things at him and his wife demonstrate that it was much more than that.

This is quite strange. Came across your video today. Never heard of the legend or story or Eagle Stone before. Also never heard of hag stones until a a good few months ago when someone gave me one. I made a KZbin channel in February to talk about Dreams and Visions I’ve been having and one was the Dream about the Eagle under an Arch giving me white feathers. The Thumbnail I created is very similar to what’s carved into the Eagle Stone. All very strange. I’m definitely going to take my hag stone with me and visit this place in the near future. Also you’ve gained a new subscriber. I’m Scottish to and love history and all things Scotland.

My Grandmother born 1878 came from Fortrose on the Black Isle. Her father and the rest of our relatives all have come from around the Black Isle. Her name was Helen Cunningham. She married my grandfather John MacLeod born 1882 (his family came from Lewis)they lived in the Leackin in Inverness. My Dad was the baby and only boy in the family he was born 1920. Again I'm the youngest and only girl in my family. Which is why I have relatives like my Grandmother born 1878. My Mum had me when she was 41. My parents married 1942 and had their first son 1948, another son in 49 and their last son in 1950. Then I arrived in 1957. I've always found the prophecies interesting.

So many ppl think that folklore means superstition. However: Why is it called a folklore? Folklore is a combination of the words folk and lore which dates from 1846. The former refers to a community of people, and the latter comes from the Old English lar, meaning learning or knowledge. Folk, in this sense, is also used in terms like folk music, folk dance, and folktale. Isn't the point that these predictions were made and came into being? I mean, instead of trying to prove him a real person? Blessings!! :)

How much of it's true? The prediction about a ship being tied/anchored to a stone in Strathpeffer came true during the Second World War when a barrage balloon (a ship of the air) broke from it's moorings over Inverness. It's dangling cables got caught on a church steeple when it drifted over Strathpeffer. He also predicted that Scotland would not be free until after a man could walk 'dry-footed' from England to France and of course that can now be done, through the channel tunnel. Independence is coming.
