In this video, we get the ancient air-over-hydraulic-brakes working using modern parts to replace unobtainium, obsolete brake bits, and nobody lost a finger.

Well done your way ahead on my 515b although I only spent one day on it and it’s still parked at the same spot I purchased it . To my defense or insanity I bought a excavator and have been busy chasing loose ends on that dreaming of the day that I can have both running at the same time or just for sale . I guess I better get on it then ! Lol 😂

Good luck. The biggest tip I can offer you is to find parts manuals for your machines. I got really lucky that my machine came with a parts manual and then I found a searchable PDF version as well.

@@MinnesotaEric yea that’s a good tip , in fact I’m not buying another piece of iron that doesn’t come with shop manuals or the mechanic preferably both ! lol 😂 is my mechanical skills , I wish I would have spent more time in the shop with my dad … and it’s starting to be a dwindling skill set those that keep the secrets and tricks to keep this old stuff running

I can see the excess of hardline in the hub getting snagged and broken off.

Tend to agree with you, but the immediate goal was just to get the brakes working. Next will be the remote reservoir system for the brakes, so that if the brakes get hot there is a place for the brake fluid to go without clamping on the brakes.

It may come up in any loader or heavy equipment search.

Great job! Im working on my wheel loaders brakes and after got some pressure working, it started clamping... Any idea why one of the brakelines could be going to gearbox? Could it be like a parking brake? Wheel loader is finnish made Valmet 1200 but it has Allison TT 2220-1 Hydroshift gearbox in it. Im wondering if you happen to know about them or in general?

I agree. There must be a brake on an output shaft or something unless you have a clutch and the brake line is going to a slave cylinder. My payloader uses an airbrake on the forward pilot shaft as a parking brake that is normally on and comes off with the parking brake release like a big truck. That said, I don’t know about your transmission, but I suggest you look around for parts and service manuals as they are invaluable to teach a guy how the systems work. Also the heavy equipment forums is a good resource. Moreover, there maybe a Facebook owners group you can join and ask questions. I looked up your loader and sadly everything was in Finnish on my iPhone. I’m good at puzzling things out though. The hydro shift likely works like a powered shuttle-shift with a torque converter.

I think it could be disengagement pressure for hydraulic pressure override , if it has two brake pedals that’s usually what that could be , although mine is elect switch solenoid So all go back to minding my own business . Lol 😂

@@allensandven0 the pedal knocks the transmission out of gear allowing the engine to put all of its power into lifting the bucket. At some point I’ll have a video on my payloader showing this as well as a cool feature on the boom stick that locks the boom up while curling down but automatically knocks the boom stick up lock off when the curl down is then curled up-which is super useful for dumping since you want to transport loaded with the bucket held low, but since the bucket is so huge, you need to boom up in order to curl down and dump.

@@allensandven0 @MinnesotaEric Thanks! I think i will try to remove this line complety. I bought this loader with bad turbine and thought it might last 5-10 years atleast, so far it has saved me tons of money by hauling dirt, gravel, sand, big rocks but yesterday was the first time turbine stopped completely working. Totally forgot this brake line that may be disengaging the turbine. Will have to try removing the brake line before i start looking for a new transmission / turbine :D On my machine its not connected to brake pedal just manual flip switch.

Fabrice, I discuss the power clusters in an earlier video. The ones I got are not OEM are provided by a Canadian company, Fleet Products. In the comments I link to the company. Also, if this helps you out, subscribe, comment and like my videos because it took me a long time to find an alternative to rebuilt OEM power clusters. Also, your local heavy truck jobber, like Fleet Pride may be able to help you, but my video explains my process. Subsequent videos in the same series show the detail I took to modifying the mounting brackets and how we mounted the pair of power clusters. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKjId3RpYtqIfKs
