Nice entry in the lineup, amazing range & quality for the size & cost. For my needs the 24-120 is the way to go, but these super zooms are very popular 🙂👍🏻

Is the 24-200mm f4-5.6 Z lens better than this? Much more lighter and the 24 at the wider end and 200 at the deeper end better suited for travel?

Thank you for this thorough coverage. I have been using my Zf mainly with manual SLR lenses. I only have the 40mm kit lens and was considering a z lens for events. Do you think this would serve?

I would recommend the 24 to 120 f4 or the 70 to 180 Tamron for events

@@FramesTM thank you. I was wondering if the 28-400 would not be ideal. I have a full set of Fuji lenses and the whole system so the idea of investing a lot in Nikon right now isn't appealing.

Comes at a good time , I tried this lens on my first day shooting with my ZF without grip yet but a too unfamiliar with the ZF nuisances to be fair. I’m also considering the 24-120 & Tamron 28-75 G2 & look forward to your comparison. Whichever way I go I’m definitely getting one fast wide prime for those restaurant or palace murals. No doubt even many professionals will get this for their holiday use but probably not for their pro work. Many fantastic places to shoot in India & subcontinent, have any view on the 24 vs 28 mm difference??

Actually, in places like India, the historic structures are so massive that you often needs ultra wide for that. Like if you go to Taj Mahal or any palaces in Jaipur or in the southern India… it’s good to have at least 20mm. At least. 24… really becomes restrictive and becomes a lot of work

Hello, is it suitable for Nikon Z NIKKOR ZTC-2.0X Teleconverter? Thank you

I’ve got this lens, you need to be shooting in a ALOT of light otherwise you will have grainy high ISO pics. Essentially are trading weight and size and for low quality, grainy or blurry pictures. Wouldn’t recommend it.

I don’t know what camera you are using, but with my Zf I don’t get any visible noise up to ISO 1600 and even at ISO 6400 it is very minimal. On top of that the vibration reduction of lens and camera will allow for much lower shutter speeds. So for 95% of general subjects there will be no issue at all using this lens (yes, I own one as well, next to the 14-24mm and 24-200mm zooms and 28, 40 and 85mm primes). I don’t think you would buy this general purpose lens if e.g. your main subject is indoor sports... As regards to image quality of the 28-400mm zoom, I still have to do tests myself (just received the lens this week), but if I look at the quality of the 24-200mm I don’t think I will be disappointed. Several in depth comparisons have been made on the internet between the 24-200mm and 24-70mm, 24-120mm and 70-200mm S-line glass and even on 45 Mpixel sensors the differences are barely visible in real life and can be neglected by most photographers (unless you need the limited depth of field of the brighter glass). In the past I have been shooting with Sony A65, A77 and A77II APS-C cameras and plotted the images at 67x100cm on (very) high end professional plotters only to be stunned by the quality of the Zeiss 16-80mm (24-120mm equivalent) zoom lens. This already showed me that unless you are an extreme pixel peeper you can safely use zoom lenses of the known brands.

Top Nikon models can be more affordable to high iso performance. At Tele end f8 , you need to have iso 8000 to afford an interior sport shooting. Try Nikon Z8 or up. Good luck!
