Hello, I have been watching your videos. Love them... the content as well as the colours you output. I use Fuji X T4 for birds etc... So always Manual modes and Manual AF / back button focus I really have no idea what it will be like to use AF... And time and again thing of switching to Sony and now, Nikon And I still wonder if I will later miss the fun it takes making pictures using manual mode Since you are used to so many camera systems, what are your thoughts ? Thanks :)

My simple answer to that is, you can use manual mode in any camera. But the joy of being able to track and subject when it’s doing the cutest thing ever out in nature… nothing can put a value on that

@@alphaandomega2709 Currently I own a z8 and a lumix s5iix...in the past I have worked with the a7iv, a7siii, fuji xh2s and the r6mkii. In photos, the z6iii actually has less good DR than Sony, Lumix and Canon. In video it's different, the canon is limited with the c-log 3, the n-log is better, then above you have the s-log 3 and especially the v-log (the best)…but thanks to the n -raw Nikon takes the advantage, the quality of your images will be better than the competition which only offers 10bits. I can honestly say, as someone who shoots with Nikon and loves the ergonomics of Nikon's DSLR-sized bodies, that Sony cameras are simply non-starters for me due solely to their ergonomics. If Sony's ergonomics were on par with Nikon or Canon, I would have switched to Sony a long time ago. Your review and overview of these two cameras are very fair and unbiased, probably the best perspective and review I've seen on KZbin, which is why I subscribed to your channel. I was waiting for the Nikon Z6III, but I decided to buy the Z8 instead because I wanted something with more megapixels and better dynamic range. I'm glad Nikon is finally catching up in terms of autofocus and video features. I was seriously considering selling all my Nikon lenses and camera bodies and switching to Sony, but I just couldn't get past Sony's ergonomics. I purchased the Z8 about a week ago, so I'll finally sell my Nikon DSLR bodies-with the exception of my D3X-and purchase the Nikon Z6III to complement the Z8. In my eyes, this is the perfect combination for how and what I want to shoot. Thanks again for taking the time to post these videos; I sincerely appreciate it! 🤙

Excellent review, just subscribed :) I was spending the last two weeks trying to choose between these two choices after selling off all my Fuji gear. I ended up going with the A7IV. If the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 and the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 Gen II were available natively on Z-Mount, I would 100% have gone with the Z6iii. The Nikon 14-24 and 24-70 f2.8 look like great lenses, they're just both a lot more than I want to spend as a hobbyist. I hope that Sony greatly improves the rolling shutter and increases the 14 bit fps to at least 15 fps whenever they release the a7V. I also hope Sony makes something that can complete with the Z8 at around the ~$3000-3500 price point. Nikon is really killing it lately and I really love to see that!!

Resolution of D850 (45MP) compared to Z 6iii (24.5mp) were not as dramatically different as it seems, if both had an OLPF. But the Z 6iii has one and the D850 has not. If both were the same then doubling resolution (think in PPI) means doubling a sensor of X*Y=MP becomes 2X*2Y=4MP. However the OLPF - introduced to help software in deBayerisation of the raw image - takes a lot of sharpness away that is not a problem at 24MP but 36MP and higher gets in the way. Compare in DxOMark Nikon's D800 (with OLPF) to the D800E (Eliminated OLPF) by having the sharpest F-mount lens on both. You'll be shocked to see the difference. Next compare a D750 or so to the D800 and you'll see that the impact of more MP on sharpness is less. Same applies between D800E and D850. The difference between a full frame 24MP with OLPF though and a 45MP without OLPF is huge. If you only shoot video that doesn't need the extra MP the Z 6iii is fine. If you frequently print very large where people can walk up to your prints, buy the Z 8. I migrated from a 24MP D camera to the Z 7 when firmware was at 2.0 to get rid of the OLPF that had caused me some color cast in stronger backlit scenes, and to get rid of 45 years of chromatic aberration with pro F mount lenses. Also tint differences are gone between "S" class Z lenses. Buy a Z 8 with FTZ as migration strategy and replace lenses one by one.

10:15 I believe it actually is a BSI sensor. From what I've read, stacked implies BSI as stacking depends on BSI construction techniques. See DPReview article "Tech timeline: Milestones in sensor development" "Stacked CMOS is the current cutting edge of fabrication tech, and it takes the BSI approach even further, creating layers of semiconductor, shaving them off their backing and then connecting them together to allow designs with still more complex and sophisticated circuity." They don't explicitly advertise that, similar to the Z8, which is also BSI. See DXOMARK "Nikon Z8 Sensor test"

I think we are now solidly back to the way things were in the DSLR days between Nikon and Canon - where one would best the other and then the other would strike back and hop scotch the first and so on an so forth. The ultimate result of this was better and better cameras and gear for all consumers. I am glad to see this is where things are again today - we are all now winners again regardless of brand! -PD
