I think Michael Braxton Sr. Also played a role in the family dysfunction. He put his own interest (his affair) over his family.

I agree, I'll discuss him in future episodes.

@@mindoflilith Awesome I look forward to your commentary on this. With the disolvement of her marriage, Evelyn believes that her girls are all she has and I do believe she means well. But the foundation of this dysfunction is Michael's affair. I've noticed with these online conversations, single mothers get the brunt of criticisms but men are absolved from being held accountable when they leave the home and start a new family. I hate how the black community blame single mothers for everything but not the deadbeat fathers and husbands.

I agree! I feel Evelyn was so hurt and betrayed by him she placed her feelings on her daughters which created conflict within them... I love my father but as a woman I hurt and feel for my mom....Iyanla Vanzant touched on how the parents played a significant role in the sister's dynamics but they rejected any accountability for the situation

Absolutely agree! It’s both parents. It also baffles me how people solely blame the parent ( mostly mothers) that stays, yet absolve parent that leaves. They are expected to be superwomen, no grace ever extended.

Mr. Michael was also their parent. Ms. E gets too much heat, and their father doesn’t get nearly enough, and I think it’s because he comes off jovial and light-hearted. She might not be perfect, but I feel for Ms. E.

When the Braxtons had a session with Iyanla Vanzant, Iyanla asked them why were they so toxic yet co- dependent. She even asked Toni, "If you all were not sister's would you be friends and Toni said, "No"!!! Tamar had a FIT!!! Iyanla and Mrs Braxton had several arguments because Iyanla told her, to get out of her grown kids business and to find herself some hobbies! She told Mrs. Braxton you are way to invested in their lives and you are creating divison... I believe Mrs. Braxton was a part of a Girl Group before she got married and had kids... This is the reason she had little empathy for Traci when she basically repeated the same behavior.

Great commentary! I always felt the reason the sisters couldn’t resolve their issues was because of Evelyn, but they didn’t feel empowered to call her to the carpet. It’s interesting that Evelyn never seems to take any accountability for the situation given that she’s the parent. Traci was the only one that pushed back on Evelyn in any way.

Evelyn hasn't forgiven the dad, and she hasn't taught them to forgive and heal, she has taught them to wear the facade of wellness, she is unhealed and limits their ability to forgive and do the consistent work to heal. Toxic maternal behavior can have profound and long-lasting effects on children's development, self-esteem, relationships, and overall mental health can be seen in Tamar's behavior.

Ms, Evelyn has a deep hatred for her ex husband and most times when a woman have kids by a man who broke their heart, she would despise the kids she bared by that man, I know Ms Evelyn love her kids but you never know what really goes on in a person's heart, because the heart is deep like the ocean

When parents like Ms. Evelyn, ask children to pick one parent over the other during a divorce, it can have several negative effects on the children, impacting their emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Children may feel confused and guilty for having to choose between their parents, and other responsibilities leading to emotional turmoil and prolonged trauma.

Ms. E was not only the First Lady but she also preached as well. The woman Daddy Braxton cheated with was a friend of Ms. E in the church and she MAY have watched the girls when they were younger.

Although it is not right, Mr. Braxton ( who has been in his 2nd marriage over 20 years) may have left Ms. E because she became unbearable and it's understandable having 6 children but from my understanding he never walked out on his children. Ms. E caused damage in her girls, Michael Jr. seems fine living a "normal" life.
@keptbygrace62213 ай бұрын
Yes. If I remember, Tamar was around 15 at the time of the divorce, which means the other children were pretty much grown. I know divorce hurts, but it's not like he left Ms. E with a house full of small children. 23:24

Agreed - if Ms. Evelyn was the boss, and her needs were placed above everyone else's - I could see Mr. Braxton wanting to leave "the cult" to find happiness and/or meet his own needs/wants. Also, they were high school sweethearts. Perhaps they married too young. Either way, it doesn't seem like being married was his issue (hence his 20+ year marriage to his current wife) but rather being married to Ms. Evelyn

I will never forget when they had dinner with both their parents and their father told them it is time for them to stop letting their mom run their lives. It was very interesting to see the way Evelyn reacted. She was really upset even though they had been divorced for years at that point. How the kids got so involved in the divorce even as adults is so wild to me. When I watched them on Iyanla I feel like she didn’t address the real issue with their mom.

Girl u nailed this! I also think ms Evelyn is extremely jealous that Michael sr got married so soon and STAYED married. Even if she never admits it aloud, she knows deep down that she's the problem. She needed to heal and maybe she could've remarried. Instead she latches on to her daughters. What almost 80 year old you know is as involved as she?

@Godsgirl4053 ай бұрын
Neither do I. I think we’ve come to a point of expecting parents to be perfect & to also create other perfect human beings when it comes to having and raising children. You can only do so much as a parent. You can give your children the tools needed & equip them as best as you can, but they will still eventually make their own choices & decisions in life which cannot always be blamed on upbringing & parenting. If we’re going to look at things as a parent blame game we’ll end up going back generation after generation endlessly because everyone has an imperfect mother or father to place blame on. I don’t believe we should turn a blind eye to toxic parenting, but I do believe we should give parents grace to be human and flawed just like the rest of us.
