Vasco da Gama was the captain of the first succesfull trip from Europe to India around Africa. That's the journey the sash stands for. But the man never sailed or even put a foot in Brazil, actually. He became a Portuguese hero, and the club was founded by the Portuguese community in Rio.

And to add up to the comment above, Flamengo's name has nothing to do with flamingos, it is from the neighborhood where the club was found, and the neighborhood name came from the Portuguese word for Flemish.

Just a sidenote to this really great jersey from Botafogo: Ronaldinho played for Atlético Mineiro, not Botafogo. Both wear similar "black and white Juventus style" jerseys, hence the confusion.

Você está totalmente errado na sua análise. Segundo os dados do próprio IBGE, os negros representam 10,2% da população brasileira. A maior porcentagem aqui no Brasil são de pardos com cerca de 47%.

brasil deserves a new national soccer league comprising 16 to 18 teams. plus a national soccer cup which open to all levels. limiting the games 45 to 60 annually each player will play.
