During the period and aftermath of the German Revolution (1918-1919) different short-lived states saw the light of day. Well known is the Bavarian Soviet Republic. Lesser known is the Bremen Soviet Republic (Bremer Räterepublik) that was proclaimed early 1919. It was a short-lived socialist state that challenged the Weimar Republic. Eventually this state was toppled by the Freikorps.
