During the period and aftermath of the German Revolution (1918-1919) different short-lived states saw the light of day. Well known is the Bavarian Soviet Republic. Lesser known is the Bremen Soviet Republic (Bremer Räterepublik) that was proclaimed early 1919. It was a short-lived socialist state that challenged the Weimar Republic. Eventually this state was toppled by the Freikorps.

great video as always. It is important to mention that the german navy for many years was in inertia and that allowed the communists to enter since there was no high nationalistic views. the freikorps were manned by veterans who show the communistis as the enemy of the state and that is why the war was so brutal compared to the short lived period it lasted.

Professor Stefan I am so sorry that I haven’t been contributing for some time on patreon I just checked my account and realized and have no idea why because I haven’t changed banks or bank card number for the one I’ve been using. I tried to re sign up for the 10 dollar amount I was on before 5 times yesterday and it keeps rejecting my card and I called the bank today and it’s not from there end so I emailed customer support this morning and hopefully will get it resolved I am so sorry my donations haven’t been coming to you! I once had my own short lived state, but I sobered up after a few ding dong hours. OK, seriously, the Freikorps were not exactly "good guys," but they were needed at the time, or Communism would have swept Germany, and then moved into other Western countries. You might say that Poland stopped Communism from expanding into the West, while the Freikorps stopped it from expanding further. Just my view, and you probably know by now that I am not a right wing person. Take care.

Important to remember that the Bolsheviks were transferred from Switzerland to the Russia Empure (via Germany, Baltic Sea and Sweden) by the German High Command. The founder of Cheka (forerunner of the KGB was Polish (Felix Dzerzhinsky or ‘Iron Felix’). When he died in 1926, he was replaced by another Polishman calmed Vyacheslav Menzhinsky. In office 1926-34.

@@HistoryHustle Hallo.
